United-States Torque of Countryman S

MINIUSA.com mentioned the torque is 177 ft-lb. In the last paragraph, also stated that "And our overboost function bumps torque further to 192 ft-lb should the need arise"

I wonder what is the maximum torque for Countryman S? What is this overboost function? How to enable this overboost function?

As far as I am aware the current 1.6 petrol turbo has over boost. The turbo briefly runs past it's usual turbo boost pressure providing extra HP/ torque for a brief period. To access over boost just floor the accelerator. I had the additional gages fitted to my Countryman All4 auto cooper S and one of the gages shows turbo pressure or more precisely indicates torque measured from one of the various engine management sensors. The gage briefly shows over 100% i.e. over boost. It's also interesting to see HP and torque figures in the mini connected system.

Lots of turbocharged engines have 'overboost' since the boost is controlled by the ECU. Like the Mini, they offer a short-term increase in maximum boost pressure to give extra torque for typically 10-20 seconds. After that it drops back down to the normal level that the engine can withstand for a long period. The logic being you only normally want maximum boost/torque for a short period and so they can allow a higher level - that would cause excessive heat build-up and/or wear if the engine was allowed to produce that level for an hour or two.

To enjoy the Turbo overboost, you must have the Sport Package and then select SPORT MODE and the ECU electronics will kick it in.
