Today I saw a countryman parked next to an original mini, only when parked together do you see how huge the countryman is .i suppose these days we all expect more space but I must say it makes you wonder what BMW are thinking with there new designs no one can say the countryman is easy on the eye .

Wait until the new BMW 9-series and X7 are launched in a couple of years......they really will be huge!

The Countryman built on a 1-series platform so it's not going to be small like the 'conventional' Mini but it's still not all that big.

Current: 2011 X6 40d & 2012 Countryman SD All4
Project: 2005 E46 330Cd M Sport convertible

You are just now noticing the size difference? If you dont like the Countryman or Paceman then dont buy one. Buy a Kia instead. Personally i like my Countryman.

How weird is that I gave my clubman to my wife and got myself a kia sportage I'm not wanting to knock mini at all but the clubman has spent a lot of time in the garage and the kia maybe dull but it's honestly never gone wrong . We all have different ideas about what makes a car look pleasant and I didn't mean to offend I just think mini design have lost it somewhere .for example the paceman is so wrong from all angles ,what were they on ?

Personally I love the way the countryman looks - especially the cooper s. I wouldnt be seen dead in anything as soul destroying as a Kia. Driving has to excite me. Driving a jelly mould euro box that looks like every other car... i'd fall asleep at the wheel. It's all a matter of personal taste though.

Surely your not suggesting that the countryman is a drivers car I've driven one and it handled like a half filled bath nothing like a mini at all ,also being European it is a euro box like any other car now't special lots of Psa bits mixed in it

Certainly not I ain't mini bashing ,I like a blast in wifes clubman it's just a bit floored .this started off with a simple note on how large and odd countryman is ,most of the motoring press agree it's no looker but as you say it's personal .kia is a working car towing a big trailer only one minor problem in 80k cruise switch broke so it just does its job .i have no illusions about my car but some folks on here certainly do. Looking at JD power survey not all mini owners are satisfied with there cars so just face it it's a large odd looking wannabe SUV type thing that can never be a fun to drive car like the mini and it appears they go back to the dealers a lot when things go wrong .

When you can take a Countryman S out of the box and run gravel back roads at 100mph+ sideways and for hours at a time, I would say they handle pretty good. When they can take a 5.0L Mustang in the 1/8 mile from a standing stop, that too is pretty good. My only complaint is that the front door could be a little bigger for getting in and out. Just no match for a tricked out R53 S.
