I am looking for a compact SUV and like the look of 2015 countryman. I am not good at bargaining. So I just compared the prices from some programs(edmunds, autopriceshare, truecar, walmart). AutoPriceShare dealers give me two offers. one is 2015 Countryman Cooper S ALL4 $27413.0, the other is Cooper Countryman 2015 $22035.
Since my city always rains, I think the AWD is necessary. However, the dealer and my friends told me that AWD is only useful when snow. Is that right?
In addition, I noticed that price of 2015 countryman is firm. The shared prices in autopriceshare.com are around invoice price. There are no big discounts. Are these two prices fair?
You will find for better driving enjoyment the S is better. A standard Countryman will not be peppy, but does have a better ride. If you appreciate spirited driving occasionally, get the S. The All4 is front wheel drive almost all the time. It is only a 60 front/30 rear when it engages in a slippery condition. It is good for rain and or snow. You cannot engage or disengage the AWD it is electronically controlled. As for prices, mine in 2011 was $32K in US $ and the ALL4 was $37K US $. The wife opted for an S Sport Countryman as I have a Land Rover for severe weather.
I've got a 4wd S, and it's great. Having said that, I wouldn't pay the extra for the All4 version unless I lived somewhere snowy. With modern tyres and traction and stability control, front wheel drive is perfectly fine in the wet. You might notice the TC light flash if pulling away from a wet junction with a heavy foot, but that's no big deal.
The turbo motor in the S is definitely worthwhile though - I'd go with a 2wd S if I was speccing one from new.
AWD adds weight, can lower mpg, costly to repair if needed + is way overpriced. unless you drive in a lot of snow FWD will do well with 4 good tyres, even in winter 4 real snow tyres will do very well!!! if you got xtra $$$$ thats fine but not worth it for most!
