Looking at buying my girlfriend a Cooper as she has always wanted one plus her car has also been stolen.
The one in question is a 2002 Cooper with 96k miles on the clock, MOT to end of year and no tax.
I've been speaking to the guy and unfortunately he doesn't have a service book belonging to it but thinks he has all the MoT letter confirming it's always been on the road (still doesn't tell me if car has been looked after)
I'm most likely going to view and possibly buy tonight however, I am not to sure about said year and high mileage for a petrol
I know my way around a car pretty well so hoping any of you kind people would know where to look specially at this year and model OR in your opinion is it not worth it?
Reason I'm drawn to it is he claims he is leaving for Australia and is priced it to sell at £1800, similar coopers that age have 120-130k miles and are still around the £2500-3000 mark!
Weakspot on pre-2004 Cooper/One is the Rover Midland gearbox......check gearbox bearings are quiet in all gears and if you buy it change the gearbox oil asap.....also ask if it is original box and budget £600 for a replacement box & clutch at some point due to mileage.
Steering pump whine noise is however normal.
£1800 is a reasonable price for year and mileage with MOT.
Main Dealer service history is on computer at any BMW MINI Dealer, quote reg no., most MINI's have some due to 5 year TLC service deals when new.
