That article is so poorly researched, it is awful.

"There are cars in movies that you might not think have an impact on you, but they do," Hancock says. "Think of The Graduate. Think of Dustin Hoffman in that car. The Alfa Romeo Spider was an Italian car that was somewhat popular. But in the movie, it represented freedom and rebellion. Well, the demand that the movie caused for that car was so strong that Alfa Romeo came out with a model of the Alfa Spider called The Graduate."
But the
The Graduate movie came out in 1967 and the Alfa model called The Graduate came out in 1985,
18 years later !!

It was just a crude attempt at marketing nostalgia based upon a film popular a whole generation previous.
And most insulting to the intellegence of anyone who knows anything about cars:
Quote:
"[The Mini in the Borne Identity] was the kind of car that her character, a gypsy, could have," says producer Frank Marshall. "It's got to be at least 20 to 25 years since that model was made. So it was an old car but it was also a hip car.

It has not even been 2 years (!) since the classic Mini went out of production (August 1959 -October 2000).
