Autocar hot hatch test - Cooper S not even in top 7

I read AUTOCAR yesterday in which it did a test of the top hot hatches. Although the Cooper S was in the group test it did not make it through to the top seven finalists, losing to cars such as the SEAT Cupra, Civic Type-R, Focus ST, Golf GTi, Clio 197, Audi S3, and the eventual winner, the Megane R26.

Should the Cooper S have been in this test considering it is a lot cheaper to buy than some of the other cars, and is less powerful too?

Personally I prefer the looks of the Cooper S - both inside and out, to the other cars. I like the S3 and the Golf GTi but they are in a different price bracket to the Mini (especially the S3).

I was disappointed to see that the S wasn't in the final though......

The s3 should be, to be fair, in a different class to the Mini based only on the fact of the price. Nothing to do with the drive or performance.

AUTOCAR group test - Cooper S fails to make last 7

I could swear I posted this topic earlier today but cannot find the thread anywhere so I'm having another go! If this is a duplicate then MODS please delete.

Yesterday's AUTOCAR magazine had a big group test to see which is the best hot hatch.

Although the Cooper S was in the starting group it did not make the last seven, with cars like the Focus ST, Leon Cupra, Civic Type-R, Golf GTi, Clio 197, Audi S3 and (the winner) Megane R26 making the final stages.

I was disappointed that the Cooper S was not included - I think that it's much nicer inside and out than most of the other cars in the test, and I can't believe it lost out on the twisty roads to some of the cars. Another thing is that it has less BHP than many of the cars and is also cheaper (£27,000+ for the S3??) so maybe it shouldn't have been included or maybe some of the other cars shouldn't have been included!

Has anyone read the article and if so, any comments?

Its a terrible write up. I could do better IMO. Its £2600 cheaper than Civic too.

Who cares? If you are reading this forum and are an active subscriber you probably will buy the Cooper S anyway.
