I see that the new mini cooper s does well against some hot hatch rivals, clio 197, Seat and corsa vxr.... the reporters were a little usure of the new mini looks.. nothing new to discuss there however i like how they ended the report though... refering to the new mini as a work in progress, probably hinting at the new jcw s...

Is this the same feature referred to here: R56 gets slated in April`s EVO magazine?

nope.. its the brand new edition of evo.. i subscribe to the mag so not out in the shops yet.. i think...

its in a group test against the cars i mentioned above, it wins.. so doing well!! i took from it that they preferred the old r53's sterrign adn some of the design elements too, but liked the cars engine and adjustability.

Strange isn't it. One month they appear to not be keen, the next it's doing well.... Thing is also that "the magazines" view is only often the view of one or two writers, and different writers tackle different stories each edition. I guess that way though you get a more balanced view, even if it doesn't always lead to a consistent outlook.

Reading between the lines and it's only a feeling I have but I think that RESTYLE isn't too keen on the R56

based on what they said last month, (the richard porter article, I actually quite like him and do agree with a lot of what he says!) and what they say this month, there is certainly shared views on the looks of the car, they think the mini is too big, proportions not great, speedo too big.. blah blah, but they compliment the engine and dynamics of the car...

The final paragraph of this group test sums up why the MINI Cooper S (R56) wins against the Corsa VXR, Clio 197 and Ibiza Cupra :-

"All the cars here do the business on the drivers roads in the South of France but only the "S" gives you the buzz that makes you want to get up early to go find them ! "

Never realised I might have given that impression
I tried to remain unbiased but its con`s simply outweigh its pro`s ... at this moment in time.
Come the 2nd gen Facelift & I`ll give it another chance to redeem itself
