Yes - they pitch it against the Golf GTI, and the Clubman wins

They call the regular MINI the 5 door and say "they drove it first", but the review is pretty positive. Also mention the C30 as the competition: http://www.mini2.com/2007/09/26/mini...ers-volvo-c30/

MINI Cooper S Clubman vs. Golf GTi

Guys,

Auto Express pitted the MCS Clubman against the Golf GTi...

It's good to see the 'other MINI' can hold it's own against the might of the GTi

In practice it's not like I thought it would be, and I think you'd be hard pressed to trip on it. But you never know.

There's a review on the Clubman on page 42 of this month's What Car? magazine.

Here's an interesting quote from it:

"The trouble is, with every new variant MINI gets further away from the sensitive design treatment we saw when BMW resurrected the brand in 2001"

Hmmm...

Honest John Clubman test

"No doubt about it the MINI is the biggest motoring marketing success Britain has ever seen.
The Oxford factory will turn out 240,000 next year and we still can’t get enough of them.
But there was a limit to how many buyers there could be for a car that, however much fun it was to drive, could only take four at a pinch. Even totally besotted MINI lovers were having to look for something else once the Clear-Blue strip gave them the good news."

Good road test write up from Honest John, in full here:-

Hardly a review as such but I am assuming some of it is from the Uk launch The UK plates and Highland scenery bit of a clue.
Some new pictures in the gallery section.
