Fiat 500 is cute! I want to win that one! I liked it's little red accent stripes! All they did was compare it to the MINI, even though its more Toyota Aygo straight out competition. And they harped on about the USB port (Doesn't the new MINI have this too?) FOOLS! I'll watch it next week just because Shawn much prefers this tripe to Eastenders tripe!
I'm amazed they don't tout the new Fabia in the same way, it seems if manufacturer puts the option of a black or white roof on the list then they must be competing with the Mini.
If anything the new Fiat 500 will compete with the Mini, but only for a1 year tops when people realise the premium in the Mini comes from decent dealer services and the 5 year all in service package. Plus that Fiat on 5th Gear last not was truly horrible, that red sticker spoiled the lines of the car, now when the Arbarth 500 comes onto the market it will be a different story, then again by the time that appears so will the Audi S1
I reckon the Clubman 'test' next week will be another hack and slash affair, then again if I turn the sound down it will make things a little better.
It's slowly getting to the point that youtube is a better source of information comapred to broadcast TV when it comes to cars.
They drove it around town. The guy driving said he kept forgetting to compensate for the extra length and was cutting people up. He also commented on the clever stop/start system which he thinks doesn't work properly because it cuts in too soon. How can it cut in too soon? You engage neutral and bring the clutch up and it stops the engine. You then put the clutch in to select first gear and the engine starts itself.
Their verdict was that it was too expensive for what it is.
Repeat is on at 10am on Saturday for those who missed it. You only need to watch the last 20 minutes.
Much as I love Top Gear, it's a shame there isn't something on TV any more that's more akin to the old style, that actually do proper reviews of cars that people actually buy without having to do silly stunts all the time
But what is the point of Top Gear road testing "ordinary" cars. If you want to know what a car you are actually going to buy is like then go take a test drive for yourself!
If you want to know what Gallardo handles like on the Stelvio Pass then you pretty much have to take Clarkson's word on the matter as you are very unlikely to be able to do it yourself. I myself view Top Gear as motoring-based entertainment, nothing more, and it does that job brilliantly!
