you can buy i 197 from a renault dealer for 13500 not the cup and it is well specced a mini will cost nearer 20grand 6500 is a lot of money and i have drove a clio and its a nice car sure it will fall to bits by the time its 3 years old and only be worth 6000 max but its still a good buy and a quick well sorted hot hatch. if i was changing my mcs it would cost me 10 grand to get into a new mcs for 3500 i can have a new clio and even if it does fall apart which it will the warranty is there to fix it

I wouldn't ridcule anybody buying what they wanted - I would rather have a Mini over a 197 - Big deal, its my choice.

I reckon the run flats made for very poor cornering/traction. I was driving home the other night, pulled out of a mates house at under half throttle in a standard Cooper on 17s, and both front wheels just spun to the red line. The road was slightly damp, but his Dads CL63 at full chat when all 525 odd horses are deployed doesn't even bother the traction control

Nope - Only done 9.7k miles, and not even 1/2 worn. And only a Cooper There's a small manhole cover there, but that wouldn't let the wheels spin for that distance and consistently at higher revs. I can understand it for a metre or so after while over the pothole, but it was quite a lot further than a few metres. Perhaps Traction Control should be ticked next time - Or I need to control my lead right foot more

The Clio is a striped out hot hatch and the MINI certainly isnt. I think R56 owners shouldnt feel bad that they lost by 1 second. One second a lap is less that the difference between F1 cars per lap. I can bet the Works MINI will beat the Clio as a more equal car, a striped out performance car.

Now how long is this thread going to go on for??

Bear in mind the Mini only lost one second overall track time , where Tiff made an error coming off track

He says at the end he still couldn't beat it no matter how many times he tried! I doubt they wouldn't take the best time for both cars anyway for a fair test.

It's hardly striped-out. It only saves 20kg over the standard 197 which could easily be the difference between a fat driver and a thin driver! It's more about the price with the new Cups whereas the 172 Cup employed a more hardcore philosophy.

Is it true that the mini with the JCW is only 18 BHP more than the standard mini cooper S.

why was the old R53 170 BHP and with the JCW it was around the 210 BHP

why so little

neil..

With the factory JCW on the way, they probably didn't want to give it too much more oomph.

True, but reading about that Cooper S Evo magazine are running it seems to have a lot more power than even a standard JCW specced car.

Mini Cooper S | Long Term Tests | Car Reviews | evo

Seems odd to say it has never been chipped, I think I'd be in shock if my 172BHP car was actually putting out closer to 210BHP, then again they did say that was achieved on a cold engine

I wonder if the JCW mods to the engine have similar strange effects with the power increase it makes?

Isn't the increased BHP due to the overboost?
