As an aftermarket company we have noticed that the classic Mini owners prefer the traditional "Mini" while the new MINI owners obviously prefer "MINI", so we simply cater to that. On a side note, classic Minis are not always Coopers while new MINIs are Coopers, so we refer to the two distinct gropus as "Classic Mini" and "MINI Cooper" when we are trying to be specific. At times we will use BMW when saying MINI Cooper to clarify the origin of the parts we are providing. Just a little insight from the aftermarket side of the MINI world.

True in the USA, but not true in Europe - where we also have the MINI ONE.

Not in many countries, where there is the MINI One, and there was the MINI One D, and of course the Clubman, which confuses things further really as a Mini Clubman and a MINI Clubman are VERY different beasts!

Nevermind, Paul. You've beaten me to countless replies before. About time I got at least one back (on the ONE).

Major confusion, I also use Mini for classics and MINI for new, but I think around the '90s the classics started having capital font. My Mini is a '92 car and it is written MINI on the back.

Same as you other guys, Mini = Classic Mini, MINI = new MINI (from 2001 onwards)

yeah, I think most people refer to the 2001+ BMW version as MINI rather than Mini :-)
