What resolution is your monitor?

If you can find any wallpaper that is larger in height and width of your resolution and just crop it down and resize it to fit.

I have a vista PC, been running it for ages.

I have the screensaver which is the speedo clock.

Installed straight away.

Try right clicking and running as Admin and check to see if your UAC is on or off.

Yes im the admin on mine also but their is still the option for run as administrator as vista has been setup with protection in mind. There is an admin account but has to be activated properly at first installation. So stupid as you wont notice any difference.

Anyway UAC, if you go to open a program or install a new program does the screen go darker and a messagebox pops up asking if you want to allow permission or to not allow permission?

Sounds very complicated - its just taken a month +for a very good friend to fix it so i doubt he hasn't done that - is it important?

Yes it does do that & always use the allow option

Not really important, it doesnt differ from normal admin account. It is really only for people who like to have complete access, but this only means files that you would never even think about using unless you knew what you were doing.

User Account Control-UAC is that darkening of the screen. Helps stop viruses etc and works well.

If you turn it off via control panel, restart computer, and try and install the screensaver it may work.

Just remember to turn UAC back on again after.

There is nothing wrong with your laptop as it is lol. As i said there is no need for the proper admin account.

Im at work at the moment so im trying to remember the full thing to remember it.

Right, click the start orb in the bottom left corner.

In the search/run box type regedit.

when the next window comes up, you will notice some tabs on it, click on the tab on the right, the farthest one. I think it says tools.

Then if you scroll down the list you will see an option for disable UAC and Launch UAC.

Click disable UAC and a new window will appear. When it has completed close it and restart the computer.

Then try and reinstall the screensaver.

If the screensaver works/ doesnt work go through the above process once again only this time click Launch UAC to make the darker screen appear once again. Then restart.

i hope it works as im at a loss as to what could be stopping it from installing. And the only difference is that I had UAC off when i did it,

EDIT: vista is quite different from XP but when you get used to it is is quite good. I have used it since day 1 even through all the bugs lol.

I built my PC though.
