2014 MINI Previewed: The Design

"The Cladding is coming off and the next generation MINI is taking shape. As these exclusive spy-shots (via MF reader Øyvind Repvik) show, the three door F56 hatch will will feature a very similar silhouette to the outgoing R56 and the R50 before it. But don’t let the overall shape fool you, this is an entirely new car. From the drivetrain to the design in and out the F56 is the biggest re-think of the MINI since the 2001 R50."

Looks slightly bigger and weightier? strange how cars evolve through each up date and slowly get bigger and bigger isnt it?

Thats so you buy a new one.
Its best to have a standing order with the dealer so you can renew your car everytime a mod is done youre always up with the latest version.
I mean no one would want to be seen dead driving something out of date would they.

Does anybody have any idea on the release date of the new Mini? I have seen mixed comments online from late summer 2013 till Spring 2014. The dealerships will not offer any information on this, I suspect they wouldn't sell many new R56 models if the new model is expected soon.

Sorry, it's a newb question, but why is the new one going to be F56 and not something like R64 or R59 or something?
Have I missed a sticky or a FAQ item that explains it?

The R numbers were the inherited 'Rover' Design codes as Rover designed most of the original R50/53 MINI with BMW funding.....as the new F56 Mk3 MINI will be the first totally ground up BMW designed MINI platform (the R56, etc used much of the original R50 MINI platform), so BMW have started allocating all future MINI designs with latest BMW F code numbers

I would expect to see it previewed at the major motor shows late this year and orders taken for delivery/onsale in the showrooms early 2014.
