Thumbs up MINI Cooper most fuel efficient gasoline subcompact in Canada

http://www.canadiandriver.com/news/021202-1.htm

They list it as being in a tie with the Nissan Sentra and Toyota Celica but I see they list the highway number as 5.9L/100km for the MINI and 6.0L/100km for the other two so it actually looks like a win by a nose to me for the Cooper.

Luckily for all three cars in the subcompact category, the ECHO has so much interior room that it is classified as compact, not subcompact.

Given that the MINI is not economical, this seems to not say much for the other cars in the survey...

Its not even close to being the most economical car in the UK/Europe... not by miles and miles and miles ...

Haven't spent much time in North America have you?

The MINI is a small car over here, but nothing special in Europe. Friends of mine were amazed this summer when they were in London at how big the MINI seemed.

Let's put this into a European context. The MINI Cooper's combined EU fuel economy is 6.7 l / 100 km. There are about 300 models of car available in the UK. Of those, over 100 models have cars that better the Cooper's fuel consumption (including diesels and hybrids). If you consider petrol (gasoline) cars only then about 40 models have cars that are more economical.
