MINI Car chase movie scene

I work as a sound engineer in the Hollywood Movie/TV industry. As such often see films months ahead of release, and sometimes under different titles than they eventually get released as. I saw a reel last night that carried the Paramount logo and was titled "Italian Job". This reel had a seven minute action sequence featuring 3 MINI's. The sequence was just turned over to get sound fx cut. I have no idea how it fits into an overall movie.

There was a Chili Red, Indi Blue, and Pepper White all with bonnet stripes driven by two men and a woman. The three MINI's were all working together avoiding police ? or some other pursuer. Great scenes of the three cars chasing down sidewalks then down a staircase into the LA Subway, through people on the subway platform, then jumping onto the track in front of a train.

The three cars then enter an underground drain pipe about 10 feet in diameter and are pursued by two motorcycles. Both bikes and all 3 cars driving partially up the pipe sides and eventually popping out the pipe end into the flat concrete LA river flood control area.

It was a great scene that took advantage of the quickness and small size of the cars, beat them up pretty bad also.
Nice to see our car making the big screen already. It should further increase popularity. Fortunatly I should already have mine before the movie causes wait lists to grow even longer.

Regards

Steve

Why, the remake of "The Italian Job" of course, which featured classic MINI's doing the same kind of stunts.

Alright IndiBlue! First Austin Powers, now the Italian Job. I know, the one in Austin Powers was supposedly red to start with but it was blue with the union jack by the time they filmed it.

Except for the train it sounds almost like a scene-for-scene remake of the original Italian Job movie, down to the red white and blue cars.

I am really disappointed to hear that part of it was shot in the concrete-lined Los Angeles 'river' where all B-movies shot in LA seem to go. (I just posted yesterday in another Italian Job thread that I guessed there would likely be an obligatory LA river scene in the new Italian Job. Wish I was proven wrong instead)

What's missing are any details of a roof-to-roof jump in the new movie.

In the original Italian Job the 3 Minis being chased perform a spectacular jump from one rooftop to another. And of course it was done for real back then without any special effects.

And in the orginial movie I think the chase scene is at least 15 to 20 minutes long. Only seven minutes in the new movie? Perhaps there's more to come?

Almost reminds me of those "Back in my day..." stories mixed in with the "This country's going down the tubes..." stories. Ah well, the movies really *are* getting crappier and crapper, with some notable exceptions.

Whatever.

Geez. I know I'm not getting any younger, but am I really really begining to sound that old? I hope not!

It's just that will almost any re-make of a movie, something is lost from the original. And the original Italian Job is one of my favorite movies -- for the classic Minis of course, but also for it's story, humor and acting.

The ITALIAN JOB

The Italian Job 1969 starring Michael Caine and Noel Coward in his final film was just the best. Finally found it after a long search while waiting for my new MINI to arrive and have watched it over and over again. The chase scene is spectacular...and you won't want to miss the "cliffhanger" in the end. I think that this movie gave a "cliffhanger" it's name. LOL

Any MINI enthusiast who hasn't seen the Italian Job isn't "really" a MINI enthusiast. See it.

By the way, the remake "Paramount" is expected next Spring (MAY/2003).

I thought of you last night Bruce when I was at the movies. There was a trailer for the movie "The Core" and it featured a rather ridiculous shot of a space shuttle making an emergency landing on the concrete shores of the LA river. Nobody else could understand why I thought it was so funny.
