New MINI One and One D unveiled at Geneva

The entry-level MINI One and One D made their world debut at the Geneva Motor Show. The new cars, which see the appeal of the latest generation of the Hatch widen, feature less chrome and smaller wheels and look all the more appealing for being dressed down from the Cooper and Cooper S versions.

The new car to feature a lower level of equipment to complement their more basic looking exterior but, as with the outgoing MINI One, expect it to be highly configurable, with a wide range of equipment packs also available. The petrol MINI One is powered by a 1233cc 97bhp version of the new TwinPower three-cylinder engine and, despite being the entry-level MINI, performance looks relatively swift, with a 0-62mph time of 9.9 seconds and a maximum speed of 121mph. Sadly, CO2 emissions don’t quite dip below the 100g/km mark, coming in at 108–109g/km for the six-speed manual version.

The MINI One D retains the 1.5-litre engine capacity of the Cooper D, runs lower maximum power and torque outputs of 95bhp (down from 116bhp). Acceleration to 62mph comes in at 11.0 seconds, while CO2 emissions are 89–92g/km.

The MINI Hatch goes on sale in the UK later this month, but expect the One and One D to follow in the autumn. No word on prices yet, but the petrol One is likely to start at around £14,000, with the diesel around £1000 more.

Both models now appear on the MINI UK configurator. MINI One starts from £13,750 and the MINI One D is £14,890.

Interesting, and then again for those not really in the know with MINIs or just happen to notice in passing, oh theres a new MINI type of thing, theres not an awful lot of difference to make it really stand out against the previous model I dont think, but as has been said before they can depart too much from the original look as folk would say theyve completely spoilt the design.
