Second Opinions

Just stumbled across this. It's not new (15 May 2002), but I haven't seen it commented on here, even after searching. Here's the link (third 2nd opinion):

http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/roadt...0/page003.html

Edmunds is usually a source of fairly accurate reviews. This is for the Cooper, which I only drove once (bought an S ), but this paragraph dropped my jaw and made me question what the "Senior Editor" was actually driving:

[quote]Couple the weak motor and floppy underpinnings with somewhat lifeless steering and a brake pedal that offers displeasing feel and actuation, and you've got a recipe for few miles of smiles. I'd love to give the Cooper S a try before deciding that if I never drive another Mini I can still die without regrets.[quote]

What???? Floppy suspension? Lifeless steering? Displeasing brakes? Attributes that are almost unanimously lauded, slammed!

Who is this guy? I thought the review claiming that the MINI has excessive torque steer was ludicrous (where was that?), but now this!!!

Counter to most other critical reviews, he loves the interior and hates the drive. Give me a break.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion. Even if they get it completely wrong sometimes.

Maybe a "plant" by _________ to disrupt the still-growing public appreciation for the MINI's driving dynamics and cheeky appeal?

'02 MINI Cooper CVT (prod. date: 6/12/2002; Indi Blue/Black roof, R-81 7-hole 15x5.5" or NZO 16x6.5")
'67 Austin Cooper S 1275 Mk1 (build date: 6/26/1967; Tartan Red/Black Roof, Minilite 10x4.5" or 10x6.0")
