Offline | Well, I took out a few minutes to play the Work-in-Progress version of "The Italian Job" while at E3 yesterday. Just a few things I noticed from playing in the racing mode (I didn't try the story mode as I just wanted to hop into it)... (FYI: There wasn't an Eidos rep nearby for me to ask questions at the time, so I don't know exactly what was "final" and what is still being worked on) The Good : Graphics were decent Controls were pretty good Some interesting level design The Bad : The navigation/radar system...it made no sense and I'm guessing (hoping) it just hasn't been finished. I made it halfway through one level and then could no longer figure out where to go. There was a non-textured wall where I would have guessed the next logical path/direction would have been, which somewhat reassures me that the level just wasn't finished and all of the navigation elements weren't in yet. Some parts of the level design...in one level there's an area that starts out with short stints up a set of ramps connected by 90-degree turns which turns the "racing" feeling into more of a puzzle game where you're attmpting to see if you can get a car up a complicated ramp that barely fits the vehicle on it. Also each "corner" isn't really large enough for the turning radius of the vehicle, so you actually have rock back and forth and flirt with dangling corners of the car off of the ramp to try to make the turns. I stopped playing this level after a couple of minutes Very challenging, but not very fun (for me at least)..they could tone down the difficulty a bit by at least making the ramps a little wider...then racing around up ramps and on catwalks might be a bit more fun ![]() |
