Top Gear Magazine - rejecting a MINI

For general interest, but particularly for those in the process of rejecting or thinking about rejecting:

Feb 2002's edition of Top Gear Magazine has a feature about a couple who rejected their MINI after more than a couple of months of ownership. I only skim-read in the newsagents, but maybe it will provide some of you with ammunition if your dealers fuss about accepting a rejection.

For those worried about resale values etc etc, the article didn't go so far as to say that the early-build MINI is a generally plagued car. It implied, if anything, that this couple had just been very unlucky. But, realisitically, it did make the point that faults with recently launched cars are - generally - by no means unheard of.

New car faults are VERY common. Which is a big shame for us, the consumers.

the dealer bought it back

a friend of mine had to have the first MINI on the road and took delivery of one of the 500 pre-production cars. It had chrome door pulls, missing the sports seats, generally rattled all over and had loads of little niggles with it. After about 2 months of back and forth from the dealer, they bought it back from him. Subsequently he's ordered a cooper S and took another cooper of their hands in the mean time.

they're not all sharks...

This car is going to lose me my license one day. I LOVE IT!!!

Classic Minis have faults too..!

I found this whilst trawling the BBC's Top Gear website..

http://www.bbc.co.uk/motoring/news/387_1.shtml

Ironically, there's also a link to a 'New MINI Recall' news item, but the link is broken!
