Offline | dump valve sound from cooper in italian job Hey, went to see italian job couple of times this week and my friend heard a sound more commonly found with turbos!! the blue cooper that wahlberg is driving in italian job 'chirps' away every time he changes gear. since when was the cooper fitted with a turbo? anyone else notice this? i enjoyed the film though. |

Belive it or not you can fit a "dump vavle" to a non-turbo car, it wont benifit wotsoever but you fit them on the intake manifold !?! then when you lift off the throttle "CCCRRACK", i aint done it, but a mechanic that works for me (i own a motorcycle dealership) runs a dragbike, 20years old(the bike is), but by eck its stupildy quick, also you can fit them to supercharged cars (cooper S), two of them apparently, but i aint got a cooper s ive just got a cooper so i dont care, if my mechanic in work has been bulls**ing me i do appologise, but mechanicly not acidemicly he a clever b**tard. |

| MINI2 Regular | You can fit a dump valve to a car with a centrifigul supercharger, but not to a roots application. The centrifigul supercharger just acts like the compressor side of the turbo being driven by a belt instead of the exhaust gases. When you lift off the gas, the wheel is still spinning and thus when the charge air comes into contact with the closed throttle body the dump valve will vent to atmosphere. On a root application, the supercharger doesn't "free wheel", but rather slows down with engine speed, so it would not pump any air once the throttle is slammed shut. BRG/B S |
