Internet Domain Name Purchase I have recently bought a domain name from www.domaincheck.co.uk for 2years costing £35 the address is a dot.com address Now they say all i have done is register it. I emailed them to seek further advice and they have now emailed me the following, "What sort of service would you like to use with the domain name? Details of our hosting packages can be found at http://www.domaincheck.co.uk/hosting.htm, or if you would like to point the domain to a hosting package from another provider we can either supply you with a web pointing package for 15 pounds plus VAT per year, or change the assigned name servers for a one-off admin fee of 15 pounds plus VAT. " Have i been ripped off? I hadn't realised I would have to spend what appears to be another £30 to use the domain ![]() Is this normal or am i stoofed Please help m o n k e y : n u t s |

This is normal im afraid scoob, you have paid for the domain name, the hosting is then charged separately. Its maybe a bit cheeky them charging to point the domain to some other webspace... but I think they have rights to charge for this to cover admin work etc. If anyone is thinking of buying a domain, try www.123reg.co.uk as they are very cheap! Id say your best bet would be to point it at your existing ntl space.

Unless you have signed a contract I believe you cannot be obligated to take a hosting with them. You can take your hosting anywhere you like, some will change the DNS for free to point to their hosting. I am the admin of about 10 domains and hosting for customers of mine, I have moved registered domains between several hosting companies without problems. EB/W R53 MCS Highly Modified

Usually it's free forwarding to another email and hosting provider (i.e. from your ISP or other company) Try www.ukreg.com for cheap domain registrations the MINI has gone...

I've always used www.virtualnames.co.uk Pretty straight forward service, no hidden charges. They periodically upgrade the accounts for free too. Been with them for years. JoN MINI2's resident evil

scooby, I buy my .com/net/org domains normally from the domain business of my webhost http://www.liveregistry.com and it is less than 10 USD per year! You can get domain name registered for less with GoDaddy without webhosting! DK :apple:
