MINI at Nurburgring...

Went to the Ring for 4 days this weekend in my Meg 225. Saw a lot of nice cars (a few lovely GP's and S Works) but there were a lot of accidents. Think someone on a bike died on Sunday.
Was just having a beer and the track got shut (again) on Monday,

Then we saw this:

I hope it was no-one off here and that the driver / passengers were OK. I did see it wizzing about earlier on...

I used to like going to the ring about 10 years ago on my Ducati it was really good then but I don't bother any more it's packed now and there seem to be plenty of people that think it's their own private racetrack. I actually think it's quite dangerous now and seems to get worse everytime I've been recently.
Saying that I hope those people are ok and that their insurance will put everthing right.

omg that is so nasty!

Hope they are okay! its left hand drive aswell, and looks like the most of the damage was on the drivers side of the roof (collapsed).

Im looking to go there aswell snuffy, did you have a go round the track or just go along to watch?
Dont know wether to risk it after seeing them pics!

How long did it take you to get there?

I'd always wanted to drive around the Nurburgring, but now I'm not so sure.

It seems to claim a disproportionately high number of cars and lives.

yep, when i went the other week there was a death. Hans at Ringhaus said there is officially 4-10 deaths a year from tourist days, but a Death only gets logged if the person actually dies on the track, if they die at the hospital as aresult of their injuries that does not count as a death. So in real terms its probably closer to about 25 a year.

Its simple, yes the Ring is dangerous, but yes it is fun. If you go there to set a time or think you know it because you've done a load of laps on your playstation then i would'nt bother going as your gonna get hurt.

And for those who think it'll never happen to them, the first time i went one of our party wrote off his car at Adenaue. And remember its not just the cost of the damage to your car!!! If you dmage Armco its priced at 100 Euros a meter, however on most sections the Armco is three sections high, so thats 300 euros a meter. Then as my mate did he smashed up 3 meters worth so got fined 900 euros plus 250 euros for the recovery. so a nice bill of 1150 Euro's

Worse still is if you close the track due to accident, that equates to at last look about 4000 Euros an hour.

I have been 5 times now and am just booking up a return trip, and it still scares the **** out of me.

If your planning a first trip i would recommend going midweek as the weekends are just too busy. Plus you may get to see manufacturer testings during the week. I was all over the new 550 bhp cadillac CVT in a petrol station even though its not out till next year.

Yikes

One trip to the ring was enough for me.
Scary but enthralling at the same time, but the number of accidents you see (can't get around a lap without coming across one) has put me off going again.
When I went in 2003 I was following a motorbike and at the corner just after the hotel which sweeps up and to the right he just went straight on into the armo at speed....

MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime

I'm a track newbie but I went round three times.
It wasn't that bad, I chose to go out when it was very quiet so only had about 10 - 15 cars over take me and I over took say 6 or 7.

I think you also need to think about the cost of a lap, which is now 21 euros, which is almost £18 - quite a lot of money especially as in my car, it uses a gallon of 100 ron petrol a lap!!!!

I loved it and will be going back next year no doubt. I won't go mad again and will just enjoy the place. It's just motorsport mad.

I like a beer (!) so spent a lot of the time on the corners drinking and watching the cars go by - from estate vauxhall omegas to ferrari's, new Skyline GTR etc.

It took us about 4 or 5 hours to get there and was about 340 miles

best advice would be take it easy, check your mirrors and enjoy yourself. I was bricking it but as soon as I went out there, I just knew what I wanted to do and how to do it. Definately glad I've done it!

to be honest, can't remember how long it took to get down from Calais but on the way back left at 9:00 a.m. and got into Calais at about 01:40 p.m. so that was about 4 hours 40 mins.

We stopped twice for cigarettes and petrol

I live near enough to Dover so all in all about 6 1/2 hours door to door including ferry. Obviously a bit different for you Northerners

Where did you stay, and you can't beat a nice half litre of Erdinger, i'm not a great lover of bitburger. Best bit is when you see something you'd never see again, like we saw a white new shape sirocco going round and there not out till September.
