Mini in WRC?

Does anyone have any idea whether or not Mini will be entering the WRC anytime soon? It would be wicked to see a Rally MCS take out the WRX's, Peugots, and Focuses (Foci?? )

Nope, BMW doesn't seem interested and its too short for WRC rules.
Check/search out rally threads in Racing MINIs forums (some pics), production ones have been used as course cars etc.
No doubt it will show up soon in the lower 2wd classes.

Rally MINI at the SEMA Show

There was WRC-type rally MINI at the show. It had a European lic. plate and said Rally USA on it. The drivers were listed as F. Allan (Swiss) and S. Fleming (USA). I don't know which series this car is prepped for but it looked fairly serious.

shorter than a 206?

I don't know the rules of WRC, but how long is the Puegot 206 that races? Is the MINI THAT much shorter? Or is the 206 just at the limit?

Remember a MINI is about 8" shorter than a Geo Metro.

206= limit, they had to "extend" the bumpers! Thats why they are always falling off.

Back to Network Q scores for me- course Pugs winning again...585 ft lbs torque helps!

Peugeot 206 WRC length is 157.7", MINI Cooper is 142.8", MINI Cooper S is 143.9" (longer chin spoiler) so the 206 is more than a foot longer. That would be quite a stretch! Still, I hope to see some JWRC or N class entries of the MINI next year though I don't really know if it will qualify or be competitive there. It would seem to be a nice Super 1600 platform but would need a LOT of development to be anywhere near on par.

Ezrally, at the last rally I was at the pundits seemed to think the high torque would be a liability rather than an asset in the mud but it looks like they were wrong. I think Gronholm would win a ball bearing rally this year (wait, he did win Rally Australia)!

Pugs are the only car using a 5 speed tranny- thus the torque works well, not to mention the balance & handling. Have you seen the Foci drivers saw at the wheel? And the Pugs looks like they are barely steering!
Oh and Gronholms already a almost a minute ahead after 5 stages!
