Looks great.
Is this the Targa Tasmania because I don't recall any new MINIs being in Targa Newfoundland.
I want to know everything that you did to your car to equip it for Targa. I am also thinking of running a car in the Targa Newfoundland and I am trying to figure out costs. I see a Cooper S as being one of the best Targa cars around. I can't wait to see it embarass some of those Porsches and Vipers.

Here are some more pics for you that Michael PM-ed me. The S finished 3rd in its class and 21st overall. Michael changed the suspension, exhaust (Supertrap), fitted BMP performance brakes and a Digi-tec engine upgrade. I also have short report of the S-performance in the rally in a Word document, sent me a pm if you want a copy

Wooow!!! QQQ, do you know if Michael could disable the ABS system on his rally MCS? This is an issue that hasn't been resolved by the Mexican MINI rally team...(which by the way, beat an AWD Mitsubishi and an Audi A4 Quattro last weekend...believe it or not. It scored 4th overall in the Rally de la Plata --Taxco, Mexico--)...this car has BIG potential...

Cheers!!!

My question also. I'm sure it can be done, but how involved is it? A simple fuse would be too easy...

Hi Slegoretta,

Don't know if Michael disabled the ABS, he didn't mention it though. I will sent him an e-mail and ask him to take a look at this thread, he's the one who can answer this question.

BTW Michael was beaten by a Subaru and a Toyota, but he did (just) beat a Honda Civic and Integra Type-R

ABS etc

Hi everyone,

I wasnt aware that there had been so much interest in our Targa Tarmac Cooper S!

To answer some questions and fill in some details:

The ABS was left alone. All the Targa NZ Rally is on Tarmac and there is no problem with functioning ABS. We had fantastic brakes supplied by Tarox (6 pot front calipers and 320mm rotors plus replacement slotted rotors at the rear). This was the only kit we found that fitted the 16 inch wheels we had to run. The ABS worked as intended. If you were rallying on gravel, unsealed roads then it may be another story.

We just switched of the Traction control off on the switch for every special stage. It is way too intrusive.

Short spec list:

Quaife LSD

Bilstein Coil Overs made here in NZ by the local agent.
Adjustable top mounts with stress/turret cross bar
rear ajustable control arms (Mini Mania)
rear adjustable sway/roll bar (Mini Mania)
20mm front 10mm rear H&R spacers with longer wheel studs (BMP design)
Dunlop Formula-R 205/50x16 (soft compound)

Tarox brake kit from BMP design (tarox race pads) BMP design supplied.

Digi tech ECU
BMP inlet box
Mini Mania exhaust headers
Supertrap exhaust

John Cooper works seats, belts and Roll cage.

Basically the car stopped well and went round the corners great with no vices.

To make the beast a real killer it needs development with the Engine and weight. A proper programmable engine management system would be a good start to get the power into the 250 hp area. The car also needs a major diet to lose weight (goodbye to the fantastic climate air!). The final drive needs changing too to lower the top speed to around 200 kph (120mph)

Any one know where to get the Gertrag final drive ratio to achieve the above??

My co-driver is a TV personality here in NZ. She is making a 1/2 hour TV documentary on our efforts. It will be available in early December on VHS. It will be shown on Sky sport here in NZ and on Australian TV (not sure which channel yet).

Can you tell me anything more about the Digi Tec ECU? I'm interested in that for my car, so i'm wondering about performance gains, cost, and such. Any info would be appreciated!

Whatever.

Digi tec ECU

Hi Grinder (do you wind winches on racing yachts apart from your car passion?!)

To be quite frank I would stay clear of the Digi tech ECU. We were frantic to find a power upgrsde in the time available and thats why we went with them as it was all that was around at the time.

Firstly you have to send them (Germany) your cars ECU. They reprogram it and send you a smaller pulley for the supercharger.

On fitting the ECU and the pulley (a major job to pull of the old and fit the new) we found that the engine was way too lean below 4000 rpm and then overfuelled above.

The ECU went back to Germany and came back altered but still not perfect (at least not too lean). We still had some detonation below 4000 and this made us switch from 98 octane unleaded to 103 octane leaded Aviation fuel which will screw your cats and probably be illegal in the States.

All in all not a great set up to give us only 177 hp!

Why not wait for the BMW approved mod (if it ever turns up!) or talk to BMP design in Texas 1 800 648 7278. Talk to Chris. They are doing some good stuff in the power department and its in your country.

Arrow MINI mania LSD with different final drive ratios

http://new.minimania.com/NewMiniSear...MiniDetail=Yes

"LSD is supplied complete with final drive ratio of your choice: 3.71(as stock), 4.29 or 4.54." Now, problem is its just for the 5-speed. Perhaps they will have one for the 6-speed Getrag in future?

No experience other than browsing their web site...
