Offline | Best RPM to launch MCS? What's the best RPM to launch MCS from a standing start? ... best RPM to shift from 1st to 2nd? ... 2nd to 3rd? ... 3rd to 4th? ... 4th to 5th? ... 5th to 6th? all for a drag strip , of course. |

Offline | Depends on tires (compund, width, diameter, pressure) and how they hook up. With 205/16 Kumho V700's, I launch at 2500 autoX'ing, but I would drag at a lower pressure and might have to increase the RPM's to get over the bog range. I will be interested to hearing other's opinions. I seem to remember Garfield did some experiments early on. Do a search. Seems the answer to remaining gears would be to shift at the redline to maximize the torque at the wheels. Maybe a short shift from 1st to 2nd at mid-5k would be better in order to not start spinning again. | MINI2 Master | I did a bunch of testing with my stock MCS with results like this: Then, once modded, I did a bunch of testing at the dragstrip. Here's some results: The moral of the story is, slip the clutch and/or spin the tires at launch AT LEAST 3k rpm, then take it to the rev limit in every gear. Gear spacing on the MCS is such that shifts at redline (or close to it) are fastest. |

Offline | Definitely depends on MANY variables, like was said. But the ideal feeling (to me) would be dropping the clutch, and never lifting for traction, usually around 3200 for me. It may feel like you're spinning too much, but you're moving forward quickly and staying in the power band. I've done many G Tech runs and watched the times improve with certain styles. If you bog AT ALL, it's slower. If you have to lift to keep from spinning really long (several seconds), it's slower. But just keep in mind the variables: Outside temperature Surface temperature Size and type of tire Suspension Quaife? Humidity Surface makeup (concrete, asphalt, density of asphalt) With this many variables, the RPM with change. But, it should stay within about 1000rpm from lowest to highest. Offline | Not to hijack but Brian, what was your experience with your H Stock Mini Cooper. Seems to me the best is to rev past 3K and rapidly slip the clutch while staying in the power band, rather than dumping the clutch. This with Hoosiers. PhoenixEventAugs |

Offline | You never truly sidestep or "drop" the clutch like I said, the pace at which you release is another variable, but it is rather quick. Like you said, the Cooper needs to stay in a higher/narrower power band, so it pays to launch a little higher. But once again, calling the exact RPM would be difficult with all of the variables.
