Autocross

Hi all,
I live in San Jose and was wondering if any of you knew if there's a good autocross club in the area.
Thanks,
Johnny

Check out http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/

The Fresno chapter may be the best for seat time. Low turn out and great site.

You always work at autocrosses. every club every where. Somebody has to pick up the cones, do timing, take care of registration, etc.

I just learned this weekend so I don't know doo but, I can tell you working the course and fetching cones is a great way to learn. Try to work different section of the course.

Tip O' the Day. Get good info on tire pressures. I ran too low (didn't know any better) the first day and ate up my tires. Ran correct(?) pressures the second day and they held up MUCH better.

I enjoy working the course. It is a great chance to learn by watching to see how drivers do well and mess up on difficult sections. Plus, sprinting to replace a cone before getting run over by the next oncoming car can be just as exciting as racing!

United-States AutoX info

I have run my mini in one drivers school and 4 events and I am looking for some printed informinaton on driving competively with a front wheel drive. I have autoXed with rear wheel drive jn the 70's and realise that I will have to relearn a lot. I spent an hour with a autoXer from Memphis and he had the same problem. His cure was to sell his mini and continue with his rearwheel cars. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
john

I auto-x with the Golden Gate chapter of BMWCCA. We have 6 runs each time, so I think it's better than the 3 runs seat time in other events.

What tire pressures did you end up with and what kind and size are you using?

Re. Tire pressures

If I run with the original Goodyear 195-55-16 run flats I use 42 front and 40 rear.
When I run with the Pirellis 205-45-16 on 6 1/2 wide rims I run 50 front and 42 rear.
The higher pressures on the Pirellis is to try to reduce roll over due to the less-stiff side walls. Even this pressure wasn't enough.
I have had my MINI aligned at the dealer since my last autox with 0.25" toe out on the rear and it has helped a lot. It feels that the car wants to turn easer so I will try some lower pressures and a little less agression on the really tight turns.

At that time I ended up 45 front and 42 rear on Goodrich Traction TA 215-50 16s.
Running my 205-50 16 Kumhos I'm at 45 front and 40 rear and seem to be getting consistent roll over on the tires and good temps across the face.

Now if I just didn't suck
I'm having fun. Have an even this Sunday.
