| Bad Dog, Moderator | He should have bought track day insurance! I have a hard time feeling too sorry for him after that really dumb inside move he made on that little green convertible. Racing conditions are one thing, track day is another. That was an expensive afternoon! Chili Red / Black Roof Cooper "S", delivered Aug 5, 2002. Offline | Repeat after me: Gravel is for sliding, pavement is for sticking. If I were one of the other drivers out there, I'd be on the radio *****ing about him to the track staff. I'm surprised he didn't get flagged in. Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |

Offline | now i dont wanna start any fights but what that guy was doing (drifting) is actually a type of driving...and while it looks like showing off and actually is showing off there are events designed around it. as far as i can tell every turn he went into he was using known techniques...not driver error (such as putting on wheel in the dirt on the apex). doing those type of drifts with AWD takes a lot of skill. im not sure how well known drifting is in the uk but its not very popular in the states although there recently have been a few events...the only thing that urks me is that he does it close to others...the only time ive seen a drift event where they were so close to each other was a filmed one in portugal...well heres a video for you guys...VIDEO (right click, save target as..) | Sponsor,Moderator & Racer | Russ - I agree the guy/girl is definitely not a beginner - and who knows the rules for French track days may be totally different to the UK - It may be that overtaking in corners is allowed as at general testing days in the UK Drifting may be a technique but it certainly wont get you round the corner any quicker! which leads me to wonder why people use it ! (except rally cars of course) |

| MINI2 Master | drifting can be quite fun, they teach you power on oversteer at hethel which gives you great understanding of car control, but it is very slow and never used in races that you would want to win!! btw, early start for you Glen! Thought you wasnt leaving till later |

Offline | drifting is absolutely positively the slowest way around the course. they say if you get used to oversteering/drifting you can get used to slower lap times. however most competitive cars do drift including F1 drivers, just not to the extent where its easily seen. drifting is purely for fun, and people are graded on their drifts, depending on speed, style, and technique. here's a guide to drifting.
