Offline | Silverstone test day - also, Phil & Graham, are you there? Racer & I spent yesterday at Silverstone, which proved to be a real eye-opener, neither of us having been there before (except on our computers ). Two other John Cooper Challengers were there, Phil Hollingdale & Graham Parsons - which was excellent, as it meant we could all go round together to really get a feel for driving on the limit in close proximity to other cars, and even try out a few outbraking manoeuvres into some of the corners! It was all pretty exciting stuff for us novices (as all four of us are), but it's going to be mayhem when there are another 20 MINI's all out there...![]() As it turned out, we were all pretty much on a par with each other, all managing to overtake the others at various points around the track - although whether we'll be quite so polite in "leaving the door open" for each other in a race, we'll have to wait & see! And yes, I did manage to go on the grass - twice - at the exit of Copse, after going in at "TOCA2" speeds instead of "real-life" speeds Also had a BIG moment at Copse as Graham came down the inside, I took a slightly strange line to give him room, then hit oil left by another car and ended up going sideways round Copse at about 80! With an armful of opposite lock (I wasn't expecting to have to do that again after selling the TVR ), the barriers loomed large, but once it got back onto grippy tarmac, the good old Min just straightened up and carried on as though nothing had happened - more than could be said for me!So, a good day all round - and good to see Phil & Graham (are you there guys?). Next test day is at Lydden on 3rd June, and the next event is Abingdon Sprint, 8th June. Hope to see you there! Cheers all Andy "Strimmer" W |

I just can't wait until all 25 of us will be lined up on that grid and racing for real - it will be like destruction derby! Got my car back today! Looks as good as new and is all ready and raring to go! |
