Watching Mark at the OTC on Day 1

I just drove 1300 miles over and back from Pahrump Nevada to watch the first two sessions of the Open Track Challenge and see some fellow Lap Dogs with the very fast, but temperamental Audi S4 run the OTC. The MINI S is in competent hands. Mark is doing an excellent job, on tracks he has never driven (never an easy thing). The MINI looks great, the back seat removal was pretty easy, and the Porterfield pads appeared to be working -- they certainly were hot! Mark did comment that he would have liked limited slip (Quaif, are you listening???). Wish the lads luck. This will be a tough test for a virtually stock MINI S. Be sure to check out Mark's web site listed in a previous post. He is doing a better job of photos and comments than anything else I have looked at.

Thanks for the nice post! We really enjoyed seeing you and we are having a super time with the Mini Cooper S.

We have temporarily moved into 1st place in Touring 4, but things can change rapidly.

accidental fuel switch off

I'm reading up on the OTC, and one interesting bit:

Quote:
I told Pat that it felt just like we ran out of gas, and then
we thought about it some, and concluded that the fuel
must have been cut-off somehow.* It seems there is an
inertial based switch in the Mini (and in all new cars,
actually), that turns off the fuel pump if it detects an
impact.* In this case, the switch thought the flying Mini
was in a crash, so the pump shut off.* We reset the
switch, and we were able to start the Mini.*
