| Test thread infiltrator | Re: Racing mini The best people to talk to in terms of modification are probably John Cooper Garages as they build the Club Sport cars... www.johncooper.co.uk In terms of racing, I don't know about getting into 'privateer' races, but I think AndyW and a few of his goons have had experience at this and will probably be along soon! Welcome to MINI2! Dom |

Offline | Re: Re: Racing mini Not sure how Racer, Speedster & Liz will feel about being called that... ![]() Anyway, Dom's right, for souping up and/or racing a Mini, the John Cooper Works is the best place to go. Having the Chili pack on your car isn't ideal cos of all the extra weight - but your best bet would be to chop it in for one of the two Club Sport cars left and be a late entry for the John Cooper Challenge - details are all on the Cooper website. Failing that, if you just want to go for a blat on a racetrack, there are plenty of trackday companies you can go with for about £160 a day - www.easytrack.co.uk are one of the best and cheapest, and have a few events lined up for the summer at various venues including Brands, Donington, Oulton Park & Silverstone. They (and others) also go to airfields where they mark out a course with cones - if you're a novice these are a good place to start - there's less to hit! ![]() Hope this helps. Andy |

| Sponsor,Moderator & Racer | Goons Andy - Where you been ? - Last two cars now sold so you're competing against two more from now on - Best way to get involved in Motorsport and Racing is to go along, watch, observe, listen, ask questions and decide what type of racing you want to do - and what better place to start than the John Cooper Challenge - By being around the racing scene you will get a better idea of what level of effort you wish to put into racing - Do you want a turn up and drive OR do you want to spend every night in your garage preparing for the next race (probably somewhere in between I'd guess) Do you want to race your road car or a purpose built race car etc. etc. (the later can in fact be considerably cheaper in the short term) Come along to an event and chat with everyone R |

| Sponsor,Moderator & Racer | Not reading and memorising the official bulletin is punishable by double detention and 100 lines Mr W - You'll need to bring two apples to the next meet Bulletin 4 Item 7 Para 1 Sub Para 2 and 3 ( I take absolutely no responsibility if what is written is a complete load of b@*&()ks but I will take your £20K if you want) ![]() |

Offline | Oh yeah, hadn't read that bit! I must read the official bulletins. I must read the official bulletins. I must read the official bulletins. I must read the official bulletins. I must read the official bulletins. etc ![]() But it looks to me like they've only sold one - Bill Blydenstein is No.25 and he's on the list already (although he wasn't at Wiscombe), and Paddy McGinty or whoever is No.26 - so with No.1 & No.13 missing, that's still only 24 cars - I think. Go on EB, get in there!A Last edited by AndyW : May 16th, 2002 at 09:25 AM. |

Offline | The last 2 cars have gone to 'Julian McGinnity' and 'Dominic Yarnold' as listed on the Championship Points table on the John Cooper Website. Anyone who is interested in joining the Challenge please call our sales team on 01903 784784 to put your name down for next year. |

Offline | My guess is that they'll just be keen to sell you one of the cars regardless of experience. Richard at JCW was saying yesterday that they're still undecided on what format next year will take (he mentioned rallying again as being one of the disciplines), so who knows whether it'll be Coopers or S's? Anyway, maybe by then the depreciation curve on your current car will have flattened out a bit, so it won't be quite so painful to trade in! ![]() A |
