| Sponsor,Moderator & Racer | Lee As it happens I've got a classic sitting waiting for the same to be done! - never happened bought the club -sport instead - If you're interested PM me With regard to liciences etc. If you are only doing hillclimbs and sprints you will need a non-race national B (I don't think you even have to do an ARDS course for that) just phone MSA or go to web site msa.org £3000 would be plenty regs are pretty relaxed and you can be cometitive in most cars - At Wiscombe one guy ran a Citreon BX diesel estate! and won his class |

| MINI2 Global Moderator | Lee, You should get in touch with the Southern Mini Owners Club, there are a few people who race their minis in hillclimbs and stuff like that. Post on their message board: www.miniboard.co.uk http://www.smocweb.demon.co.uk/pics/racer.jpg the MINI has gone... |

Offline | And you could come along to Abingdon to see the sprint there on 8th June - there'll be plenty of other cars (prob including Mini's as well as our MINI's) - that'll give you some clues as to what to do, and people there will no doubt be glad to give you some pointers. |

Offline | thanx everyone for your help Ive looked into what championships are avalible and ive seen on http://www.mini7.co.uk the mini miglia challenge which looks quite good.... 0-60 in 3.5s is appealing aswell... but i'd love to do the JC Challenge but i just cant afford to buy another mini... also looked at the Caterham 7 one make race series.... but both this and the mini miglia challenge are only round tracks (not a bad thing though) but i'd like to get involved in something that has a mixture of events (just like the JCC) sprints, Hill Climbs and track races aswell.... |

| Sponsor,Moderator & Racer | I used to do some support work for the mini7 and it's very 'car' based as opposed to driver - If you like tinkering and stuff great - Miglia is serious and expensive business be warned Plus on the down side there was 1 death and a couple of very serious injuries last year which has made it slightly less popular Any questions about it let me know I'll try and help I considered it for a couple of years before the JCC - G |

Offline | oh cheers Racer I didnt realise that it was that dangerous, all i want is a 'cheap' form of motorsport that i can enjoy and play around with the car.... with minimal expence. MINI7 seem to think that this is an affordable motorsport (although 'affordable' can only be determined by the amount of 'wedge' that the person has who wrote it...) still undceided on what i should do... but now that you said that, i might look more seriously at the Caterham 7's. but it would be nice to keep the mini thing going... Hmmmm decisions decisions???? |

| Sponsor,Moderator & Racer | The Miglias just got faster and faster and became very expensive - I know this year they have moved the seats improved them and reduced the track width (of the car) I'm sure you would have an excellent time in them but unless you bought and maintained at top place car you would struggle Now Caterhams - well I looked at them as well - IMHO (at this present time) I think that the Caterham Academy is run much better than the JCC (but it is JCC first year and there is obviously a learning curve + I havn't been a competitor in Cats' so I might be being unfair) However they too have a somewhat dodgy history of personal injury (lack of roof and sides doesn't help) The fact that the JCC used brand new cars prepared to highest std convinced me that whilst motor racing is generally dangerous JCC was about as safe as it could be for a novice Caterhams will probably cost about the same as JCC all in Perhaps you should convert your existing car to Club Sport spec and ask if you can race in non-points scoring scenario later this year ready for next year? Offline | well i'd love to do the JCC but (although i could afford to mine converted) i couldnt really afford the extra insurance or if i stacked it!! the good thing about the Cat7's is that because its been going for a while i should be able to pick up a second hand race prepared one?? that should sort out the money problems with that. whats this Hot/Stock Hatch about then?? do you have a web address to find out more?? |
