Hey guys,

i'm looking to purchase the best road/track car I can possibly find, and on my list is a mini cooper S, which over time I plan to mod. I will be racing in solo 1 and 2 competition and MINi's superior handling has attracted me to it.

What I want to know is, what cars can I plan on beating on the regular, on the street or on the track....In everyone's experience, what cars do you love to be lined up with, knowing that you'll pump them quicktime....

Well, in the SCCA, if you get the Cooper S model you'll have the dominant car for G Stock. If you get the simple Cooper you'll have the dominant car for H Stock. Keep your build simple, and don't worry about getting the DSC option. I'm not sure if it's available to you, but you can also have the JCW intake and suspension installed at the factory, which is legal for Stock class. But since you plan on modding it, I'd say just stick to suspension work and an intake. That way you'd be in either DSP or STS. ALOT of good competition there. You'd probably be better off in DSP for national competitions. The only trouble you'd have there are the Integras and R32s. Gonna be hard-pressed to beat them.

Last year I was classed in ASP cuz of the JCW kit and while I did get my butt kicked (not because of my driving OF COURSE) by more than a few, I did love beating a few Vettes and such........
Bottom line in autocross, regardless of your car, if you don't learn how to drive well, your name will be taken rather than you take names.....

Are you certain these items are available installed at the factory (and not at the dealer)? I thought all the JCW parts could be ordered with the car but weren't installed until the car arrived at the dealer, making them illegal for stock classes.

I've been told they were installed at the factory. But like the story of my life goes, I was probably misinformed. But if they are installed at the dealer, then they are illegal for stock class.

I have a friend whose fiancee races a Civic in G-Stock and is absolutely depressed over the entry of the S in this season's championship. Hahahaha...
