Set to debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, AutoGuide‘s spy photographers have caught the 2014 MINI Cooper S completely undisguised, revealing the next-generation Cooper.

Overall, the 2014 MINI Cooper grows slightly in size with the front end’s overhang noticeably larger than the current model. The front windshield is also more raked in for a sleeker design and the LED daytime running lights now form a ring that encircles almost the entire headlight.

But the biggest change on the 2014 MINI Cooper is that it will ride on BMW’s all-new, front-wheel-drive chassis that will be shared on the German automaker’s 1 Series GT and MPV models. The next-generation MINI Cooper will also move to a three-cylinder engine lineup which includes a 1.5-liter, turbocharged engine with direct injection and variable valve timing. Rumor has it that the powerplant will produce anywhere from 120 to 200 hp, but don’t be surprised if JCW variants pump out closer to 300 hp.

There’s also a chance that the current four-cylinders will carry over for the first model year as MINI preps the new three-cylinder engines. Production on the new MINI Cooper is anticipated to start towards the end of the year, and AutoGuide will be at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show to deliver the official news when it happens.
