Offline | Hi all. Just trying to see if anyone else has experienced this? The other day I had the misfortune of filling the car to the brim with some Esso diesel. In my defence I was traveling to Liverpool, it was late on New Years Eve, and nowhere else local was open. Since I've filled up I have noticed stupid amounts of black smoke on startup and when using full throttle. I have an after market back box, but this has never been the case with the likes of Shell, BP or Tesco. Performance also now seems more sluggish, the car almost feels down on power. ![]() At first I though to myself that it must be old fuel, but this station is used regularly, as it is signposted as a service station from the M6 (Truckhaven, near Carnforth). Anyone else had similar experiences? Regards, James. |

Offline | Funny i use Esso almost exclusivly, well that was until fuel went over £1/l now i just go for the cheapest. To be honest i have never noticed any difference between derv fuels, and i have owned a lot of derv cars. The reason is use Esso derv is that its the only one that doesnt froth and i can get a full tank in right to the brim. |

Offline | Thanks for the reply mate, interesting to hear that you have had no problems. I too had never noticed any difference between the different 'brands' of diesel, using either the MINI or my previous Citroen diesel. The only exception being made for BP Ultimate, which I used to use whenever it was avliable, but that was until it became £1.21 a litre at my local garage!!!!! Now I just use either BP, Tesco or Shell. I think this Esso stuff must have been a bad batch so to speak. ![]() James. |
