Offline | Do a search fo diesel. You should find lots of info. From what I remeber it is a 1.4 engine sourced from toyota (the one they have in the Yaris) ....can't remeber when it will become available but a quick search should reveal all. |

| MINI2 Senior | engine is build by Toyota under supervision of BMW, but due to some performance-problems isn't expected until autumn 2003-spring 2004 (this is confirmed by my dealer, who is generally very up to date on this stuff). Offline | I know a man who works at the Cowley factory and he told me last weekend that he's taking a diesel for a drive next weekend. They are in the UK already and are being tested. He also gave me some tickets to MINI's "family fun day" at the factory this weekend - but that's another story... ![]() Rich Finding blood in your stools is nature's way of saying "don't drink so much blood". |

Offline | Someone told me had seen a MINI that looked like an MCS, but had a strange exhaust, so he followed it - and boxed it in when it parked at the local MINI dealer (London area). It turned out it was a left-hand drive diesel on test - the driver had to do a pickup of parts at the dealership to take back to the factory. The story was they used an MCS shell as the battery is in the boot on the diesel as well due to lack of space under the bonnet. |

| MINI2 Senior | Hmm, it seems the diesel will be introduced earlier then I mentioned before. The sooner the better of course. A MINI Diesel would be a smash-hit here in Belgium since the majority of cars are diesel/Lease (almost all diesel). | MINI2 Senior | only available as a One...hmm probably to do with the 75hp engine (compared to a 90hp 'standard' One). A 75HP Cooper would be bad for the Cooper image...anybody in for a John Cooper Diesel Works kit? ![]() Daver ======================================= ---There can be only ONE--- ---Trust no ONE--- |

Offline | I just wonder how much power and torque, BMW will be able to get out of the 1.4 Toyota diesel to power the much heavier MINI and give it decent performance. If it is going to sell at a premium over the ONE (as most manufacturers seem to charge more for the DT versions) it has got to go at least as quickly as a ONE or a) private buyers aren't going to bother as the premium in price will not be recouped on MPG if the mileage isn't high and b) company car buyers will not put up with slow performance. To get the same performance as a ONE and the industry performance averages in the £11000 sector (Peugeot 206 DTurbo, Rover 25 Dturbo both 115mph approx and 0-60mph in 9.9-11 secs approx, it will surely need at least 90bhp and 155Ib torque to compete bearing mind that it weighs so much. Far better in my opinion would be a really powerful Turbo Diesel as in the Golf PD130, Seat Ibiza 130 Sport (have you seen the performance figures in Autocar for the Seat Ibiza turbo diesel sport? something like 30-70mph in the sevens secs)and all for insurance group 7. To get the company car market and MINI enthusiasts, BMW need to put a good powerful Dturbo engine in it. I would definately consider it. |

Offline | Diesel Mini My dealer in Southampton, believes the mini diesel will be released in 2004 and has no further details, but will take a refundable deposit if you want to order one.... I agree that a turbo would help.... top gear mag (dec 2002 issue) believes diesel to be ready may 2003, with Yaris 1.4 lump, and combined mpg of up to 60 ! ..makes my cooper look very greedy... jimbo |
