Testing the alarm and spare tyre

Is there a way of testing the alarm on the Mini One D which does not involve damaging the car (i.e. without shoving a brick through the driver side window)?

After locking the car with the remote, I tried rocking the car but nothing happened. I could have rocked it harder but I didn't want to damage the car. I already put a dent in the bonnet after closing it too hard with my hand

I also tried jacking the car up (as if to steal the alloys) to try and set off the tilt sensors. Lastly, I tried dangling a mobile attached to piece of string to the passenger holy **** handle and then ringing it to make it spin round (to set off the in-car motion sensor) but no joy.

Is it possible that my car doesn't have an alarm, it's a 2005 Mini One D (75BHP)?

Also, there is no spare tyre under the car or spare tyre release handle in the boot, next to the battery. Did this model not come with a spare tyre? If not, what was the point in having a jack in the boot? Without a spare tyre, I'm obviously going to have to rely on the runflats and drive to a garage to get them to replace the tyre.

To see if you have an alarm, look on the left hand side indicator stalk - does it have a red tip? If so you have the alarm, if not you don't. You should also have a motion sensor above the rear seats.

I find that locking your car with the windows down allows wind to blow through and in turn set the alarm off. I found this out by accident, and the alarm is bloody loud!

No MINI's come with a spare tyre as standard, although there was an option to spec a space saver spare, but I don't know where its kept if you have it, sorry. You will just have to rely on the runflats, I have had to drive on a flat on more than one occasion, and I can assure you they do their job well.

Hope this helps.

Also, if your car does have an alarm, if you've locked it with the remote button and then unlock it using your key in the door (i.e. haven't turned the alarm off by pressing the button again) it will set the alarm off. As James said, it is very loud!

As far as I know, the alarm was an optional extra on the One/Cooper.

I can't see a red tip on the left side but I can see a yellow tip on the right side... and it flashes at me when I get in and out of the car. I guess I need to refill the washer fluid. Anyone know how big the capacity is?

When I use the remote button to lock the car and the then proceed to open the car using the key, the lights flash at me but no alarm sounds.

Guess I don't have an alarm then

The washer fluid bottle holds about 2 litres on cars without headlamp wash, the flashing yellow light at the indicator stalk tells you when the washer fluid is running low.
