MINI Diesel

Is it worthwhile waiting for the diesel to come along.
I was looking at a MINI One and tried to import one. Least said about that the better! Now I'm back at square one and with subsequent wait once I've made up my mind again. If I was to order a MINI One now, it would be late Dec/Early Jan before it arrived so might as well wait till 03 plates and run my old BeBop over winter. Think the diesel will be worth the wait? Am disappointed with the MINI fuel consumption figures. Yes I know it's a 1600cc but comparisons made with competitors cars of the same size and MINI could be better.

Drive the MINI ONE gently in mixed town/Mway driving and you'll get about 40mpg - pretty good I think.

No doubt that the diesel will offer better mpg but will it drive as well? I've no idea what the HP will be but a 1.4 turbo diesel may not be very quick off the mark.

I wonder what the price will be? Often diesel cars are more expensive than an equivalent petrol model. Unless you're a high mileage user it could take a few years to get the bigger outlay back.

As the MINI is a relatively heavy car, I don't think the performance in the diesel will be sparkling with the 1400 engine. I'm just looking at the possibilities as it will be March at the earliest before I could take delivery of a MINI

Mini Diesel(1.4 Toyota-engine from Yaris) will have 75 HP, you know enough regarding performance (One has 90-100HP)....very bad..it will only appeal to economical drivers who don't care about performance....

The fact that the current 1600-engine has a bad fuel consumption is wel known with the BMW-bosses, that is why they started engine development with PSA (instead of Chrysler-curretn engine) for the future MINI-engines.

CHeck out the section "Future Variants" for more chat about the diesel....

I'm looking forward to driving it, but inital reports sound unremarkable. If BMW can make it go as well as the Yaris D4D with the extra weight, it will be excellent - but I have my doubts!
