Offline | Just Ordered A Mini-d After deciding my people carrier had to go I just ordered a Mini One D this afternoon. Reading the posts on this site has been one of the reasons because of the community spirit. So give yourselves all a big pat on the back!! Anyway the car is on order for August with the following options: MFSW 15" 7 hole alloys Chrome Line exterior Tinted windows Sports seats Manual Air Con Salt CD Boost I am also thinking about the alarm and trip computer and would appreciate any comments on the options I have chosen. Also, given the colour of the car, what interior do you think would look best? Thanks again for being such a good starting point for a new owner. Now I can look forward to my own Mini Adventure (its such a cliche but I love it :-) ) |

Offline | Thanks for the Welcome Max. You are probably quite right in what you say about the Yaris being the better car. The thing is I would never consider another Toyota after an Avensis a couple of years back!! It was the most unrelialbe vehicle I ever owned and ended up getting traded in after six months. Also, I reckon with the Mini (and i'm sure you will all agree) you are getting more than just a simple car. When I took it for a test drive the other day it got more looks and smiles in 20 minutes than a Yaris would get in a year. Its also the first time a sales person has told me to "floor it and throw it round some bends"! |

Offline | Why a diesel. Do you live in France ? At least you will have the last laugh after 58,000 miles and you will then be better off than if you had bought a MINI One !!! 2004 CR/B MCS |

Offline | Hi Ginger and Notters I went for a diesel for a few reasons 1) driven derv cars for the last 5 years so kind of got used to them now! 2) my mileage is up to 20'000 a year and on the motorways the six speed box should be good 3) dont need the speed of a petorl Mini (if you know what I mean) but like the idea of doing a bit of economical cruising 4) The handling and suchlike is still going to be much better than the previous Citroen Picasso! ... oh okay, I only wanted it for the new front grill :-) |

Offline | 6 Speed? it has 6 speeds! it can only be for economic purposes. My 6th gear is utterly useless unless you are planning on cruising for periods of time at above 60mph. I would love to drive a diesel Mini. I wander how quiet it is? Does it sound like a diesel? How many miles to the gallon does it get? my old Mini Cooper once did a run at 50mpg. BRG/W MCS |

Offline | Hi Tip I do a lot of motorway driving so six speed and cruise control should be ideal. When you are driving it the engine is very quiet and responsive. Certainly a lot more refined than the 2.0 hdi on my citroen. You can (just) about forget your driving a diesel. On the motorway it goes great. The steering seems quite heavy, but in a good way - nice and solid and sure footed. MINI state 58.9mpg combined, so I reckon a figure of 50mpg or so should be achievable day to day. |

Offline | Welcome! Looks like a good spec. Personally, I haven't gone for the either the alarm or trip computer on either of my MINIs: 1) The trip computer is a bit of a gadget. I'm not too bothered what my average speed or fuel consumption is, while I'm driving, and can get a good idea of the range from the fuel gauge! The most useful feature is the temperature reading and you don't need to get the trip computer to get that. 2) Alarms seem to be more trouble than they are worth. I suspect that most people ignore alarms, because most of the time they go off is because of false alarms. The immobiliser will prevent your car from being driven off, anyway, unless the thief gets hold of your keys, in which case, an alarm won't be any good either. |

Offline | Thanks MarkL added both on today with the dealer, but think i will take alarm back off. Your comments helped me decide!. Keeping trip though - I like my gadgets :-) Had another test drive today and car had the sunroof. Anyone think its worth £500 when you already have aircon though? |

Offline | Its nice to have both A/C and sunroof. Today it is sunny and 19 degrees C no need for A/C. The roof is open as well as the windows, it is nice to have the breeze. But when it hits 30C roll'em up put the A/C on. If you have the means to have both then go for it. Charles BRG/W MCS |

Offline | Hi Guys, Wouldn't have dreamt of looking at this site just 24 hours ago. The paper-boy, it's all his fault. He's cost me a fortune. He delivered my usual fix of Daily Telegraph yesterday morning (25p + 30p promo token). Half of the back page of the Motoring section is a fanfare for the Mini ONE D. Not wanting the grass to grow under my feet, I am sitting in the driving seat slipping through that sweet 6-speed, while being only vaguely aware of the Oxfordshire countryside passing my peripheral vision. And all this is happening to me before nine o'clock. The salesman shook my hand, thanked me for my order and advised me that by the time I took delivery, the heated washer jets and mirrors would indeed be a sensible option. Several nanoseconds later I decided to buy the showroom model instead. "That'll be an extra £2500 - but you can have that in a month". It's so over the top, but what's a bloke to do? Anybody looking for an Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Sportwagon? |

Offline | Thanks for the welcome guys. I forgot to mention the one item my D doesn't have - a discount - has anbody out there managed to get one of those? The lawnmower salesman is going to be disappointed - last weekend I was seriously interested in a ride-on mower,(British racing green, 5 speed 'box, alloy block, electronic ignition etc). Apart from my budget priorities taking an unexpected detour, I can't see myself doing a lot of gardening after mid July! Maybe I could offer my lawns to somebody who needs some grazing for their goat. Anyway, rest assured you will be the second (or perhaps third) person to find out just how much fun I'll be having. Still haven't sold the Alfa yet! |

Offline | Hi Harpo No sign of a discount here either. But then again I went to 3 garages and between them they were only getting an allocation of 25 D's till the end of the year. A lot of those were ordered already! Just think of the benefits though, should help residuals when you go for the next MINI in a couple of years time. What I did find surprising was the trade in values for my car. £1500 of a difference between the best and worst offer. As for your spec, my dealer has the same one - very nice inside, i'm sure you will enjoy it a great deal :-) They were surprised themselves at the fact the demo car had just so many features like auto aircon AND sunroof. As northandy said, the interior looks well smart especially in contrast to the body paintwork. |

Offline | My Dad is ordering my Mom a OneD tomorrow. Went for a test drive on Saturday and she's not stopped grinning since. I was well impressed with the car, apart from being 200% better bolted together than my One, it was dead smooth and surprisingly quiet. Mom's spec'd that posh leahter interior too. We're gonna be a two Mini household, cool! Just gotta wait another month for my Cooper now, nearly there ![]() Solid Black/White Cooper chili, white stripes, spots, 17" S-Spokes, HK, air-con, heated seats.. love it love it love it!! |
