Offline | gear shift hi all, I've driven the S and the gear shift is pretty stiff and presise. Does the same go for the D's gearbox? Also is it any easier to put in reverse? Thanks Jason '06' Cooper S Convertible - Astro Black, '04' Mazda RX8 231 - Black |

Offline | Yes, the Getrag 6-speed is the exact same one they put in the D. And I assume it will be a tad difficult to put in reverse too as it's the same! ![]() Why don't you take a D for a test drive seeing as you've already ordered one? ![]() ![]() |

Offline | I must admit the gear shift is very good in the one I have got a lock slicker than in my S, so much so that I rang up, whilst my car was in having work done on it, and asked them to check the system out. I'm pretty sure its not that same box as one the S the ratios are tottaly diff it could well be built by getrag though I wonder if they use the same bell housing and the holes pitchins are the same on the yaris block. hmmmm thoughts. sorry I am going on. Liam its all about the GG (or in this case the uhhh SCREW) |

Offline | I had a problem getting the reverse gear on the test drive of a OneD. It was more a case of not being forceful enough and not wanting to damage the car. The dealer suggested pushing from neutral to the left, then push firmly again to get it through the gate. After that it was no problem at all. Cant comment on my own, as delivery isn't due until Mid September / October ![]() |

Offline | It is a poor reflection on the design of the 6 speed box when people are commenting that they think they might damage the thing trying to select reverse. I am sure that they could modify the design so that it requires slightly less herculean efforts to get to reverse. I have commented previously that in the users guide it says 'push the lever to the left (UK) till the detent is overcome then select reverse', there is no mention of slaps or whacking from the right etc. etc. Perhaps time for a redesign or maybe rewrite of the manual! |
