United-Kingdom Next Mini Ordered!

HI All

I currently have a MINI Cooper which requires over £120 a month in fuel. So i have ordered a new MINI One Diesel. as follows

Indi Blue
Salt pack
16" Alloys
Auto A/C
Alarm
Sports Seats
Sports Suspension
Visibility Pack
Leather S/Wheel
Heated Mirrors
De-badge
Union Jack Roof

I have a couple of questions:

What is the range on a full tank? My cooper will only go about 270miles .

Why did they get rid of the shelf under the drivers side? i find it very useful, rather than the small hole next the the light adjustment.

1st: 02 Mini Cooper , Silver metalic, Manual Aircon, Sports seats, trip computer, alarm, Pepper pack, ASC+T, Leather S/Wheel, heated washers/mirrors, Stereo Mods

2nd: 53 MINI ONE D, Indie Blue+Union Jack, Auto Aircon, sports seats, Salt Pack, Alarm, Leather S/Wheel, sports Suspension, visibility pack, heated washers/mirrors, 16" 5 star alloys.

Congratulations!!! Looks like it's going to be a beauty!

I usualy can do about 800 km on a tank. If you step on it, that goes down to 700 km, but on bigger trips it's possible to do 900 km I guess.

My first tank got me about 600 miles.

With a 60/40 mix of city/motorway driving I am currently getting 50.4 mpg according to the OBC.

If you can it might also be an idea to look at the MFSW for the cruise control. Along with the six speed box it makes for a very relaxed drive if you do a lot of motorway miles.

As mentioned in a few other posts the reason for getting rid of the driver side shelf is for safety reasons as in the American market. You may be able to order the parts in the UK to do the conversion.

As a sidenote, Growler (the GF named him) is getting plenty of looks and 'nice car' comments. But the look on peoples faces when you start it up and they find out its a diesel is excellent :-)

I did look at the MFSW, but decided that i did not want to add to the cost any more, I'm already up £14,500. Anyway if i change the stereo half the S/wheel won't work.

Fair enough - you have to stop somewhere dont you!!

Just a suggestion though, go for standard A/C instead of climate then you could get the MFSW :-)

And there are adaptors out now for a good few manufacturers head units to work with the steering wheel....

I've got standard A/C on my cooper, The diesel demo car i drove had Auto A/C and i thought it was alot better.

The other thing is i don't do that many long distance trips to make full use of the cruise control.

As i have to wait until november it's going to be very difficult for me to not add to the spec list. it already cost's more than what i paid for my cooper!

Does any body with a diesel have the sports Suspension and 16/17" alloys, what does car car ride like?

270 miles from a full tank!!?? Is this just when the warning lamp comes on or is this the full 50 litres? My warning light comes on about 280 miles but I can easily get a further 70 miles out of the tank making 350 miles on 48 litres.

This means the cooper returns around 34 MPG and thats me being foot heavy!

The good thing about any MINI is that you have this choice with the options, it means you get the car that you want and not just the spec that the manufacturer wants you to take.... but... the bad thing about MINI is that you have the choice with options and can keep adding things on!

Just to update for anyone interested went for a good run today, averaging about sixty miles per hour most of the time and now with 1094 miles on the clock the average fuel consumption figure is 52.3mpg

You lucky Europe people! I wish the Mini was available here with the diesel option. I live in California where premium (required in S) at my local station is $2.31 per US gallon, and diesel is $1.79! I know fuel is much cheaper here, but wish I had the option. With BMW selling every Mini it can import, I am sure they see no reason to offer it.

I normally fill the car up about 40 miles after the light comes on, my average MPG is about 32 according to the OBC.

At least my next MINI will have a constant MPG display on the OBC.

Most of the options are good , but i don't see why they package some together and not sell them on their own, like the Visibility Pack.

James,
I have a One D with 16" alloys and the sports suspension. The ride is pleasant enough, a little rough on poorly surfaced country roads but not as harsh as a Cooper S, sports sus + and 17" allys!
I have done 1800 miles now, she was Superchipped at 500 miles and is currently returning 49mpg on mixed/mostly urban driving. This appears to still be improving after an initial horrifying 42mpg! The overall power/torque improvement after the superchipping is very impressive but did make the engine a little noisier.
I've recently completed a stereo upgrade which included some extensive Dynamat Extreme sound-proofing on the doors and rear panelling and it really is quiet as a mouse now (apart from the usual mini rattles extensively reported in these forums!).
For those interested the stereo upgrade was:
Alpine head unit
Alpine 6CD changer
Genesis profile 4 amp (false floor at rear)
Focal Polyglass V2 6.5" front
Focal Polyglass V2 6x9 rear
It sounds absolutely fantastic, far better than the Harmon Kardon system that I listened to as a factory fit option.
Just one other thing for your spec James, the chrome line exterior really does enhance the looks :-)
Cheers...
Steve

Hi Steve

My Cooper only has 15" Alloys, I think the ride would be much better with 16" alloys. I will probably put my Pioneer 7400MP Head unit in and my Kenwood HQ 6x9's, My cooper needs some dynamat for the rear.
The pioneer looks very good in the dash, The colour matches very well and it plays mp3's so i don't need a boot changer, I'll post some pictures when i have them.

As for the Harmon Kardon system My dealer did not have a demo car with it installed. If i did have it I could not install a better Head unit. I have found the chrome line exterior a pain to keep clean so i did not really want it on my One D.

Thanks

James

Question for Steveford

Thanks for the information.
However, did you install the 165 V2 or the slimline version in the doors?

On the chip side, what have you installed?

Thanks for the information.

JVP,

Just the standard 165V2. I used the 165mm adaptors from MikeTheMini (check the ICE forum). There is enough depth in the doors. With these adaptors you have approx 8-10mm clearance from the window guide frame. Do not put much in the way of gasket/sealant between the door and adaptor, nor the adaptor and speaker as the door grill only has about 1-2mm clearance from the speaker when re-assembled. Make sure that the plastic rivets on the inside of the door grill do not have any rough edges and are as flush as possible.
Be warned that not all 6x9 speakers will fit straight into the Mini aperture at the rear. I had to shave off approx 2mm all the way around to get the Focals to fit. Well worth it though!!!
I went for the standard Superchip re-mapping www.superchips.co.uk

Cheers...
Steve

I"m not that bothered as I"m a Driving Instructor and didn"t want to go ove the top with add ons.
Looking foreward to it, previous one petrol returning av of 32/33 for tuition.

I have finally got a delivery date for my MINI, The dealer said that the build date is Week 47 which I think is the last week in november.

My dad is now trying to get me to put a tuning box on my diesel when i get it, does any body have one installed? is it any good?
