Offline | According to issue 186 of Diesel Car, the One D is deficient in torque. Quote: "Take MINI up any sort of hill and you'll be convinced that there is, in fact, no torque at all" I find this view rather puzzling since on paper it has over 25% more torque than the 1.6, and at lower rpm. I haven't driven the OneD, so I can't counter this comment, but I have the feeling this stems a) from the Isle of Man trundle, where some scribes seemed to have problems with chossing the right gear, and b) from a driver with the pre-planning abilities of my wife, who resolutely changes up just before a hill! Any views from those who have driven it for more than a few hours/minutes? |

Offline | I have been to Italy last week. Driving on the motorway from Milan to Venice and back, it was perfectly possible to keep up with the ‘Big’ guys. In 6th from 110 up to 170 there was extremely little difference between the MOD and cars like TDI’s , JTD’s and others. I was even able to keep up with a 150 Hp BMW 3 for about 15 km. Due to traffic he could not exceed my top speed and pulling away from lower speeds made to little difference to get rid of me. He was realy frustrated since he knew I was driving a MOD. So I do not think this car is torque less. However I have to admit that the installed powerbox had something to do with this. |

Offline | I don't agree with the journalists either. The OneD has plenty of torque and accelerates quickly from 3rd upwards ... main power band of the standard D engine is between 2500 - 4000rpm However, I'd certainly consider fitting a powerbox like JVP¨for a bit of extra "punch" ... and better fuel consumption (?) |

Offline | To Gibbon: I can not say the fuel consumption is better with the powerbox. Anyway it is not worse either I guess. (look my post in the fuel consumption topic) However the car is a lot more vivid, mostly due to the extra torque and larger bandwith. In accelerations it's worth to keep it going untill 4500 rpm, whilst having +200 Nm from 2000 rpm on. |
