Offline | One D VIN prefix? Anyone know what the model specific part of the VIN is for the One D? This is the 4th-6th digit/letter. It's RC3 for Cooper, RE3 for Cooper S, but don't know what it is for the One or the One D? By the way, the first 12 digits of the VIN specify the manufacturer, model type, passive restraint type, check digit, model year, assembly plant, and transmission type, and the 13-17th are specific to individual vehicles. Probably not a good idea to post the last 5 numbers of your VIN. |

Offline | I was playing around with the BMW VIN decoder http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi and it appears that the vehicle code for the One is RA3, and the 12th digit may be an A or B - and for the One D, the vehicle code seems to be RB1, and the 12th digit may be an F. Maybe someone can confirm this. Wonder what the vehicle code for the Open will be when it comes out. |

Offline | If I read out the VIN and put the last 7 chars into the BMW decoder (as mentioned in cristos post) I get the following (Chassis number blanked out) Chassis number ******* Vehicle code RB11 Series R50 Model One 1.4d Body type coupe Catalog model ECE Production date 2003 / 06 Engine W17 Transmission Unknown Steering Left Catalyzer YES Thus, it says in particular that the vehicle code for the One D is RB 11. ---Claus |

Offline | Thanks, Claus, I was just putting in made up numbers like TA12345, TB12345, etc., to see what showed up. It's nice to get confirmation from an actual vehicle. Of the four digits in the vehicle code (RB11), the first three denote the model, and the last specifies the destination market (euro, uk, us, etc.). If there were One D's in the US, it would be RB13 (but no such animal here yet). |
