Offline | Is it worth it? Hi there! My Dealer has offered me a straight p/ex for my Aug 2002 MCS (Chili, Climate, 6CD list £16.7K) with 23k on the clock for a demo 04 MOD (Astro Black, Pepper pack - list £14k) with 7k. My thinking is:- Cheaper running costs (diesel, road tax) Additional warranty - as cart 2 years newer 2 more years warranty WILL I miss the S spec (Climate, Xenons, sport seats, chili) and performance (7.4 secs Vs 13 secs!!!) Anyone made the move from MCS to MOD recently? PS any spec change on 54/05 MOD compared to 04 regostered cars? Sukhjit- MINI NOW GONE - did have a 2002 MCS - Dark Silver / Black with Chili pack |

Offline | Don't look at the 0-60 time of a diesel, look at 50-70 and those kind of acceleration times. You may miss the supercharger whine, sportseats (ordered these on my new one because of lack of support with standard seats). Couldn't comment on Xenons, they do look better in my opinion, As long as it has got manual air-con you won't miss the climate that much, although i have opted for it on my new one. You will appreciate more warranty, and you will certainly not miss 20mpg, with 50mpg easily achievable. There are a few people moving from MCS to OneD, check out the '16k on a diesel' thread, and other threads on the diesel forum. No changes from 04 to 05 I don't think, apart from really early 04's, but someone might correct me there! Lets us know what you decide, Si |

| A mini is a way of life. | thats a good deal i am only getting £12.5k for mine in PX with 12000miles on the clock. take the D on a test run. you will not be disappointed. i have owned a cooper and now an S with a D on order.if you want the grin factor and cheap running costs,believe me its the way to go. good luck with your choice.Aston |

Offline | I wish we could get these cars over here. There is a huge lack of appreciation for the modern diesel, but that will begin to change as more product (VW is committed) comes into the States. Our company will have a ready source of biodiesel in about a years time so I'm mentally preparing to switch from petrol to B20-fueled vehicles then. Maybe... Offline | In this part of the world "rocket fuel" is a term used by participants in track days to describe the addition of toluene and/or xylene into premium gasoline to raise the octane number and improve performance. Up to 30% will bring the gasoline up near 100 octane and raise the fuel characteristics to a "race fuel" mix. The cars work, and it's fun to drive Performance with a capital P. The magic of diesel is that it is simply a better fuel choice, all around. Diesel has a much higher heat content (129,000BTU/gal) than gasoline (115,400) or ethanol (75,000) or even liquid hydrogen (34,000). And, that's why most of the world's trucks, trains, and stationary engines, and over half of the cars sold in Europe, run on diesel. Lower heat value means higher volumes, and that's one reason why hydrogen can't be an alternative choice for decades. We could also be much less "dependent" if we applied a little logic to this situation, substituting some biomass-derived liquid diesel in a blend like B2, B5, or B20 (%) into the petroleum diesel already being consumed. This changeover has begun. Offline | go for it Sg - it seems a good offer - I'd take it, and if/when you can afford another £ 500 + £ 80 pa extra insurance, get it reprog'd. Am not sure about the performance loss to a MCS, but when followed on the twisty bits, I've easily been throwing off a std Cooper (check out the MOOD thread). On my £ 24k pa mileage, I reckon I'm saving c £ 1300+ pa on fuel in addition to the lower insurance, and can do London/Devon/London on a single tank. Offline | is it worth it? An update! Finally decided that the reason I bought my S was a love of cars - the Diesel is a great car - don't get me wrong! BUT I have deicded good as though the deal is the S stays (I have now nearly sold my car on 4 separate occasions!) . The 75bhp Turbo feels slightly under powered compared to the 150bhp GT Tdi Golf diesels etc (similar price used). So very tempting but the S stays!!!
