United-Kingdom new mini

Hi folks,
we have just got a new mini one (56 plate - Sept '06) and are very pleased with it. However there is a small noise from the clutch as it is released (even if in neutral). Like a small clunk. Dealer says this is normal, but has we have always had VW Polos before - we have no reference. Any thoughts ?

Also is 2nd gear always tight and notchy (only done 1k miles) or will it get better.

Thanks
Geoff

Ive done nearly 4000 miles in my ONE and 2nd gear is still tight, its also getting harder to go into reverse but it doesnt bother me much now as I just have to remember to do it really slowly then its easier. I'm not sure what you mean about the clunk, im pretty sure I havent heard it.

No clunk on my April 2006 MINI, and the gearbox is a joy to use, no stiffness etv., even better than my Series 3 carbio!

I think i know what you mean by the "clunck" sound, but on my july 2005 mini One its more of a quiet tap but can be made louder by releasing the clutch quikly when in neutral, i find that straight after i can hear what i think is the clutch plate spinning. My mini has doen 17450 miles and is running faultlessly! I think once you have covered 5000 miles or even better, more miles (as to run the engin in properly), you should treat your self to a bluefin!!!! WHAT A MOD!!!
