| MINI2 Regular | tuning up a mini one I was thinking of changing my mini One for a Cooper but having read some of the stuff on this site I am now thinking about giving my liquid yellow mini one a face lift and getting the engine tuned with either one of these bluefins or getting a BRR tuning kit which increases the bhp by 25 if you tune up a mini one what insurance group does it move to your comments welcomed |

Offline | Mark did you have to declare your aero kit? As i want to get it relatively soon then get the wheel arches colour coded. Alex p.s. mods thats are of a discreat nature that dont really need to be declared as they are not in your face like an exhaust are: bluefin, air filter pannel which can be purchased from MiniMania - just fits straight into the air box, enlarged throttle body and iridium spark plugs. This is the kit my younger bro is getting once he passes his test. and will transform his Mini One no end!!! Just to say i am not condoning anyone not declaring their modifications, its purely up to the owner of the car and policy holder. ![]() |

Offline | No idea what insurance group it falls into but give Adrian Flux a call and they'll sort you out a good deal, especially if you are a member of a club that gets a discount like our 30% discount. If someone says not to declare anything they are talking rubbish so just ignore them. Any mods from factory spec means you have no insurance and face being charged accordingly. If this is found out if it is an at fault accident you will probably not want to drop the soap! You have been warned. |

Offline | I'm horrified that lookalikeJCW and MiniPetrolHead, would be so reckless as to advise someone to take a course of action that will invalidate their insurance!! ![]() This is absolute garbage! In the event of an accident this could leave choccy20 with absolutely no cover and they could lose their car for starters! If there was legal cover on their insurance, this would also be revoked in the event of an invalidation. Furthermore, if the insurance is invalidated, this constitutes driving without insurance and the police might seek to prosecute!! The fact that you cover your bases with a disclaimer indicates that you are aware of at least some of this. Frankly, your 'advice' here is despicable!! If someone like you hit me and totalled my car while driving around with your invalidated insurance, I would call upon all the resources at my disposal to litigate against you in not only the civil court to lump you with the cost of replacing my car but also in the criminal court to ensure you served jail time for your actions. Absolutely Mini-Morgan. choccy20, this is the advice you should be listening to. If you change anything on your car you must inform your insurance company. It is better to discuss any plans with your insurer before you change your car's setup so that you know in advance how this will affect your premiums. You will then be able to make an informed decision as to whether you want to proceed with your modifications. Sincerely, Andrew. ![]() Addicted to MINI... | Always someone to rant if its a mistake they'll learn from it, insurers are money grabbers, dont give them every opportunity to get money out of you! as mentioned if a car was standard except spark plugs and panel filter, so what! it makes no notable difference performance wise or look wise, its just helping your engine run smoother, like 98 RON fuel, thats not on your insurance is it? Dont tell me you dont break the law once in a while! ![]() Please note. My car is standard and if I made any performance mods I would tell my insurer...just so I dont get too much hate mail! |

Offline | I don't profess at all to be a Saint, but I do firmly believe that insurance is not an area where you can bend the rules. The advice that was given was not simply about changing the spark plugs or filling up with 98 RON fuel. Bluefin and enlarged throttle bodies are certainly modifications that the insurance companies would invalidate upon. Of course there are always people to rant - but in this case, someone came innocently asking for help and the advice they received was not just bad, but dangerous. I firmly believe that is something worth sticking my neck out to correct - even if it does make me unpopular. Anyway, I've done all I can here. I've messaged and e-mailed choccy20, publicly condemned the dangerous advice, and also reported the contravention of the Forum/Site User Guidlines: "KEEP IT LEGAL
Clearly, urging others to proceed with undeclared modifications is an illegal activity that puts the trusting advice-receiver at considerable personal risk. I believed I needed to act, and I did so without hesitation. If the MINI2 Administration deems my actions inappropriate, I'm sure they will both inform me of this and discipline me appropriately. All the best, Andrew. NeuroBeaker - Proud owner of "Zeus" (a 'slightly modified' 2004 MINI ONE). *WARNING!* Thesis writing in progress. Experiments continue. Multi-tasking? Explosion imminent! |

Offline | Why the rant? Its never been said that you should never declare your mods! Its been said that there are a few mods which are harder to detect but thats it and above all, we have actually said you should declare your mods and that i do not condone anyone not doing so, but what i have said is that its the policy holders choice. What more do you want? AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS UP TO THE POLICY HOLDER TO DECLARE MODS, AND ITS UP TO THAT PERSON ALONE TO MAKE THAT.....NOT VERY HARD DICISION AND TO TAKE NOTE OF THE CONTENT OF THIS THREAD. I admit maybe i worded previous replys wrongly........or maybe you miss read them in your haste, by reading my previouse replys it not exactly hard to work out that what i am suggesting is that its acttually a good idea to declare mods, after all i have declared my mods so why shouldnt anyone else? Offline | Closing this thread as it is against MINI2 rules to discuss and encourage illegal activity, which is what we're talking about here. If you want to break the law, and encourage others to do likewise, or invalidate their insurance cover, then please do so elsewhere. ![]() There aint no party like my nana's tea party |
