Filling up, what do you use and can you tell the difference?

Hello everyone, hope all your Ones are running smoothly.

Posts on Bluefin pointed out that using super unleaded would unleash more power. So I did, and it did, I think. The real difference came when I used Shell V-Power, which is bleeding good stuff. There seemed to be a certain roughness to the engine note and a lack of power before using this fuel, but after I filled my One up, you can actually feel the difference. Engine is running smoother and there is a very noticeable power hike/enigne response increase.

Fuel economy-wise super unleaded is giving me an additional 20 miles on the clock with £40 in the tank. Please note between £40 of unleaded and £40 of super unleaded I get 20 miles more with the Super Unleaded!

There is one I havn't tried though, BP Ultimate. Maybe for the next tank....

What are your thoughts?

Hi I have a JCW Cooper S, when I got it was running on normal unleaded. I contacted Michael Cooper at JCW, regarding advice on using V power in my car. His advice was that this was excellent for my car, so I have been running on it ever since. Car feels like a complete different animal now, would go far as saying it accelerates quicker than official figures. It is also returning 32mpg so not only am I getting better performance but also getting better economy so its good allround. Well worth extra cost per litre

To be honest I've just been using standard unleaded from asda. I know I should probably be using shell or BP but I have to go out of my way to get them. I will give them a try one day

Ive had Vpower in my MCS since 1st April. untill last thursday when i filled with tesco super 97,

I do mostly crawl stop start to work.... The fuel economy appears to have bettered, and i have not percieved any lack of power.

Under vPower on long runs i was getting 32 MPG , but 22 in town. I now seem to be getting 26 in town.

Go figure.

I use Tesco 99 or BP ultimate in my One, i also get beter fuel economy, better smoother engine running note, and above all the all round performance is better, both in responsivness and top end power.

i hate using anything else other than super unleaded!

My car runs terrible on 95 (normal) its OK on 97 from any location but it really goes on V-power at 99-100 etc. Be interesting to see how the new tuning parts will effect it!

i was recently tempted to give BP 102 a go to experience a bit of nitro boost at an eye watering £2.50.litfre but fortunately the pump was padlocked so i couldn't be asked!

i have to admit i regularly top up with supermarket rock bottom priced fuel

£2.50/L?
That is....... extraordinary! I think a tank of that would cost around £100! Yikes.

Anyone with the courage to find out what BP 102 is like, let us all know!!!

The low-down. Using excel I calculated the average cost per mile of fuel.
Premium Unleaded, 95RON, 95p/L, 42.11 L of fuel at £40 total. Tank goes on for 200 miles
Super Unleaded, 97RON, 97p/L, 41.24 L of fuel at £40 total. Tank goes on for 220 miles.
Shell V-power, 99RON, £1.024/L, 48.83 L of fuel at £50 total. Tank goes on for 400 miles.

Cost per mile for each:
95RON : 20p
97RON : 18p
99RON : 12.5p

You believe that? Cheaper to use Shell V-power!

My One is 'Bluefinned' btw!

I did think i was getting poor mileage with my One due to 'fully utilising the engine' (caning it), but never realised 300 miles was possible! Best I ever got was 202 miles with 95RON and 235 miles with 97RON and I was really chuffed with the economy!

But then again it is also down to the fact that I live in an urban jungle so stop start traffic is the norm reducing the mpg considerably.

I have now burnt half of my V-power and to be honest I haven't felt any difference in the running of the car, my mpg has gone up though. On asda standard fuel I was getting 22.3 on the V-power I'm now getting 22.7

Based on this I don't think I'll be bothering to get the v-power again. I do a lot of city driving and a burst of about 20 motorway miles a day. I am addicted to the charger sound though so thats probably not helping matters.

My MCSC is the thurstyest car I've ever owned but it's also the one that I love the most!

Suprised. I think it's all relative. When you have a slow car, any increase in performance is quite noticable. But with an MCS I don't think you'll be able to feel the difference quite as much because it's already bleeding quick as it is! I can honestly say, hand on my heart, V-power has given me better performance.
