Offline | Ever been a passenger in your own Mini? Hi there everyone! Over the bank holiday me and a mate of mine were sorting some things out on our Minis, i asked my mate if he would drive my car with me as a passenger as he was insured on any vehicle for work, just so i could see what its like from a passengers view. (I was sitting in the back of the car) Leaving the my mates drive way i noticed that at certain revs the exhaust drone is quite loud (but i liked it) And it was quite bumpy from the suspension upgrade and strut brace. Normal driving was fine as it wasnt too loud, but when pressing on its really loud but interesting to hear the different exhaust and engine notes at various revs. What i really wanted to find out was what it felt like to be a passenger when someone is pressing on a bit, so as we approached a long straight there was a tractor with a double trailer on the back. As we slowly approaced it my mate down shifted in to 2nd and floored it! Its the most strangest feeling as someone boots your car the way you do, but the car felt so fast! changing up into 3rd and the car slapped me in the seat again, within moments we were already infront of the tractor with the cars that were behind us over taking at the same time still trying to get round the thing in the back ground. Just makes me realise more how fast my Mini is and that just because we drive Mini One's doesnt mean we cant make them alot faster than others in the range! ![]() Have a go and get someone else to drive your car with you as a passenger in the back, its a strange but cool experiance! Offline | It's true! When I drive my One with my mum riding shotgun, she is always complaining that I accelerate too hard. But I always feel that I am driving "normally". When my mum drives my One, and i'm riding shotgun, it does feel as if my mum is pushing it a bit. My One feels a great deal more eager from the passenger's seat than in the drivers seat. I suppose it's to do with the fact that while driving you have control of the power and you can tell how much more grunt is left in the rev range as you feel the throttle. But from the passenger's seat you have no sense of control and so the feeling of rapid acceleration is heightend. Last edited by Paul : May 30th, 2007 at 01:10 PM. Reason: Swear filter avoidance. |

| MINI2 Senior | My mates driven my Cooper S hard whilst I've been in the passenger seat, I was bricking it loads when we were hitting some bends even though I trust him and know I probably go around then quicker, its just have the insecurity of not being in control. Oh and i got him to build up the revs slowly to 4k then plant it, wow that feels fast |

Offline | Strange that it should be mentioned that "it dont feel as fast when you are driving" as when you are a passenger. for a sureal experience, for those with MFSW ( pref S ). set the cruise to 70 (highter on closed road), put it in 3rd, then press resume. Its not you thats pushing you back into your seat, it your car, all on its own! Takes a little getting used to... . .. Last edited by 3rdpillar : May 30th, 2007 at 12:35 PM. Reason: typo |

Offline | lol good plan vinnies mini! I sat in the back of my Mini just so i could hear the exhaust sound from the back of the car, it sounds alot different to sitting in the front! I normally would be quite nervous letting someone drive my car but i had complete trust in my mate, as i have not only known him for quite a while now but he also used to race in formular renault!!!! So he knows how to handle a car esspecially another Mini as he owns a 250bhp MCS. (Dynod at SuperChips) |

| MINI2 Senior | I have … Try being a passenger with Roland from GT Tuning when your car has just been modified … :-) The combination of a 220bhp+ MCS, a skilled driver and local road knowledge left me speechless. My wife sometime drives the MCS which is always interesting as she is used to a 90bhp Golf. GTT, GRS, Janspeed, JCW, OMP + various other bits - 232.6bhp, 191.2lbft on 1320's rolling road |

Offline | A mate of mine asked me if the air filter was in the glove box once ! So I let him have a drive of my S and I can see what he means, also the s/c sounds so much louder sitting in the passenger side and the car felt soooo much quicker! Ditto what someone said about the cruise control, set it at 70mph, turn it off, slow to 40mph, select 3rd, and hit resume!! Feels a lot quicker than when your in control! |
