Gas flowed cylinder head?

Someone correct me if this is a stupid question, but is it possible to gas flow a cylinder head at home? Just as i browsed the net the other day, i came across american pages of people gas flowing there cylinder heads at home. With the JCW conversion its cheap to get a 2nd hand standard one to have a play with. And also would it make much of a difference on a ONE/COOPER? Might be fun....

It would be fun to have a go, but i would be ver carefull!

If i were you i would take the head off clean it up a little with a cloth that is not impregnated with anything and that does not leave a fluf residue.

Take away any casting defects from the head BUT do not do anything to where the pistons go into the head!

Make the exhaust ports slightly larger but dont go mad and then do the inlet ports.

somewhere on this forum there is a picture of a before and after shot of a mini cylinder head after its been ported, have a look.

Also phone round all the mini tuning companies and seek their advice and write it all down!

then as you start the job write down on a seperate bit of paper the order and how you take things off to get the head off, (so you can do the prosess in reverse when you have completed the job)

lastly take your time on the job, it will be worth it!

Only do this job if you have some machanical knowledge!

But do let us know how you get on, if its done correctly with the cam (MiniMania's cam is cheaper than the schrik but just as good!!!!) you should be able to unleash alot more torque and power.

Let us know who you get on!!

Please do be careful though.

Good luck.

Alex

Keep losing out on cooper s cylinder heads on ebay think i might spend to much money doing this, realisically id like big valves, a racing cam, and a remap so it revs higher Estimated cost is about 1k tho
