Rev Counter illumination

I've noticed that not all the marks ont he rev counter dial are illuminated red, only the ones past approx 6000rpm seem to be illuminated. Is this normal? Shouldn't all ths marks be lit up red?

Don't worry this is completely normal .. you can request for the additional lights to be illuminated by your local MINI stealer .. but only recommended for VERY cautious drivers!!!

The lights are lit up to mark the MINI One redline. They are all lit on the One D as the diesel redline is lower. So perfectly normal.

It was acceptable in the 80's

Yes Bob totally normal for the ONE, Cooper ,Cooper S.

Root, MINI ONE D has a different speedo that redlines upto 7000 rpm (unlike 8000 rpm on others) but yes they are lit all the way on the MINI ONE D.

The early ones don't. They have the same "rev counter".

Surely those lights only have the capabilites to go up to 5500 revs. That wee diesel cant rev that high!!!

No it's a valid question mate, please be fair to other users.

While we're on the topic of illuminating rev counter is it possible to change the colour, I've always rather fancied a blue rev counter/speedo?

Was it Blue? I'm also considering Green or Red (not Red for rev counter otherwise I'll be consistantly red-lining )

It wasnt on a feature car, it was on the Question and answer page, they just show examples of different colours.

I happened to look at mine when I was driving a minute ago and the smaller division of lines does indeed begin, at 5500 revs
