Bumper Removal

I was just wondering how easy it is to take the front and back bumpers off an 03 MINI ONE

Basically the car hasnt got a chrome line exterior and i wish to retrofit this, i understand that the colour coded bits just clip out and the new stuff will set into the gap thats left

Well so im told

Any information would be handy!

Cheers

mark

HI Mark,

not sure about the clip in, clip out sections for the bumpers - but you may well be right.

However it is starightforward to remove both the front and the rear bumper.

The front bumper needs loosening of the wheelarch liners and removal of the engine compartment under tray (4 bolts) to get access to one bolt in each arch.

There are three (i think from memory) bolts along the top lip of the bumper (obvious with bonnett open.

Also about six bolts along the bottom of the bumper (underneath).

Might be worth popping to Halfords and buying the Haynes Manual.

I think you will find the colour coded bits are actually part of the original bumper. The chrome bits fit over these and are stuck in position with double sided tape but you also have to drill / cut slots for the tabs you can see sticking out the back edges of the chrome trims (look carefully at the ebay photos and you will see 3 of the lower ones). It can be done but is not just a clip on job unless you cut the tabs off and rely only on strong tape?
Rear bumper removal is detailed in the FAQ for an S which is similar.
